When you need the right tool for the job

Why does my old house have a stupid lock box for the water meter? Not interested in waiting for the utility to come out, when you have to shut off the water for repairs? You may want one of these 5-sided socket doohickeys. Does that job, and few others, perfectly. Will I use it more than a handful of times in my life? Unlikely. Am I glad I got one, just in case? Absolutely

Works OK

Hey it's a basic wrench. Seems to do the job of a wrench. My one complaint is that the walls of the socket head are so thick that I can't get it into some of the handhole/ground vault openings around the socket head. Nice if it wasn't such a rough cast with thick walls. Otherwise great.

Works as intended

I could not open the water box without this key. The water company charges to open it close the box. Now if I need to shut off the water, I can without waiting on them to come. This tool can save a boat load of money in damages if an emergency happens and you need to get to box and shut off. Unfortunately, my box is located at the front of my property line which is about 300 yards from the house. I think a shut off valve is on the horizon!

It's not the best design product and it doesn't fit exactly on what it's supposed to but it is close enough to work

Not enough leverage

This thing fit the pentagon bolt on our curb water valve. But it wasn’t big/long enough to provide enough leverage to loosen the bolt! This might work just fine on a newer bolt that’s not as old and rusty as mine. But it didn’t work for me. I went with a breaker bar and a pentagon socket instead.

Just what I needed

Works with my Pentagon shaped bolt on meter cover. Not much leverage and my bolt was tight so I used this along with a monkey wrench to gain more leverage. Does the job, its inexpensive and good to have to shut water off in an emergency or if winterizing your home. Note you'll likely need another tool (or makeshift tool) to actually valve your water off after removing the cover using this tool.

Doesn't fit our meter lid

This is a solid piece of steel or whatever it is, but unfortunately neither side fits our meter so I can't give it 5 stars I will have to give it 3 because its still a solid piece and looks and feels very durable

A nut-driver for 5-point bolts?

Some in-ground utility vaults are secured with 5-point bolts. This tool is an economical solution to removing those bolts in two commonly used sizes.
