Not suitable for anything but lightweight use.

In my opinion, this is a lightweight, fairly cheaply made product. Both of the locking pieces (that keep the strap from sliding) have broken, and I have to use safety pins to keep it in place. It is ripping where the handle is sewn on. There are cuts in several places because the canvas is thin. The sizing is definitely off. To give you an idea of how it is used, I have a mixed breed, muscular, short-haired dog. He is about 80 lbs and primarily American Staffordshire Terrier. Very solid. I ordered the size smaller than recommended and still have to tighten it almost as tight as it will go to get it to fit. We walk on a designated trail in the woods for about half an hour every day. He occasionally leaves the trail which is probably where he got the cuts in the thin canvas. I have a five pound weight in each side. I am using the backpack to give him a better workout (aka wear him out), strengthen him, and train him for when he will carry a backpack during hiking excursions. Bottom line is, if you are looking for an inexpensive backpack to carry a few lightweight items, and have a dog that never leaves the trail, this is probably a great option for you. As for me, I will be ordering a more heavy-duty option in the near future.

Doggie Backpack

I bought this for my hyper dog who was continually pulling/tugging and being aggressive about leadership. I read an article that a doggie backpack if filled with a water bottle on each side of equal balance and a few doggie treats for good behavior would help the dog to feel like he was a working dog and take out that extra spurt of energy so he would be more calmer indoors. During the hottest days of Summer, he wore it a few times and I felt sorry for him as he was panting so much and decided to use it more in cooler temperatures. It did come in helpful, but we don't burden him down with a pile of stuff in it, just enough to keep it balanced and the main factor too to consider is that it lays properly positioned at sholders where it needs to be, so the dog doesn't experience any health issues in his neck. It worked perfectly, but now he's older, he doesn't even need it. It's a great training tool that was taken advantage of for a time.

Great bag, wrong size

I bought this bag recently and now I have to return it because the advertized size was incorrect. The description says the medium size bag it suitale for a border collie. It just so happens that my dog is a border collie, and a fairly large one at that. However, the bag is at least a whole inch too big. The bag is great and offers plenty of room for whatever you dog can carry, the only reason I only gave it four stars is because of the inconvenience caused by the wrong size description. I would still recoommend it.

Semi-pleased

We bought this backpack about a year ago and overall it works good. The only issue we've had is that the bag hangs too far down the sides and the back and our dog pees on the sides everytime he lifts his leg. Which means that we have to wash this backpack alot to keep it smelling decent. Overall we've been pleased with the fit and being able to add water bottles for weight, unfortunately it doesn't slow our dog down as much as we'd like..he's a work in progress!

Sizing should specify the breeds it will fit. I have German Shepherds and ordered a large size first only to have to return for a medium. I have to tighten the medium as far as it will tighten since it is almost too big also. Not knowing the correct size cost me the extra shipping charges since the shipping is not refunded on returns.

great backpack

I love this backpack. it's easy to use and it adjusted very well from 5 month old to adult size. It washes easily and the only problem I had was she broke a zipper when It caught on something.

Awesome for the working dog

This backpack is great! Very sturdy and tough, well constructed and quality materials. The pockets are big and roomy, plenty of room for toys, bags, keys, water bottles, even frisbees. There is a noticeable difference in my dog when she uses this. It's like she knows she is working and she really likes it. But when the walk is done, she can't wait to take it off. Overall, I am highly satisfied with this product

Great backpack

This is a great backpack and the size is just right for our 70 lb. husky. We had to replace our previous backpack (same brand) when the buckle broke since the buckle design has changed a bit. This one appears stronger. Lightweight pack and lots of room for storage in the side pockets.

It's great! it gives him a job

Great for Camping

Used this backpack on a 9 day camping trip with my labrador and it worked great! (although she was a bit frightened of the bag). She carried her own supplies. Medium fit for our 55 pound dog.
