Works as advertised but beware of common sense pitfalls
Device works as claimed but there were a few challenges. You have to make sure your hole will be somewhat spaced between the joists. Might be a challenge w/o a stud sensor. Insulation in the attic may get in the way so be aware of that, especially if it's blown in. That was a real pain. I used an existing light fixture hole which was only 3" in diameter and this required a 4" hole so cutting may be required in your application.. Since it was an existing fixture, the old bracket had to come out. That was some work but I used a trick to remove it w/o having to brave the attic (which isn't that the point of using this device after all?), You will probably be working off of a ladder so that presents some obvious challenges as well. Now that its done I'm glad I did it and the ceiling fan doesn't wobble one bit even on high. I give it 4 stars just because the instructional video doesn't really address what to most would be the common sense items I described above. It may be easier for some to go into their attic and do it directly rather than using this but it is a clever way to get a stout support for a ceiling fan.

Great ceiling fan mount
Great mount. Only thing i was lucky to have attick access to it cuz otherwise i don’t know if i was able to to tighten it down through a small hole, or you would have to cut the drywall down, but that is the whole point in buying one of these. i just wish the mounting pole would be the shape of a wrench so you can tighten it with a tool and not with a bare hand. 4 stars from me. only because it is hard to fix it in a position really nice and strong by bare hand through a small hole.

Item is not a twist to tighten.
Normally with these styles this is twist to tighten. If you are looking for that easy install this is not the one.

Know when to brace
Very heavy duty and will support any light or fan I would ever use in my home. I ended up in the attic space to install instead of going through the ceiling. My home was built in the early seventies by carpenters who took pride in using a lot of big nails to anchor electrical boxes. The opening was big enough to undo the wiring and no room to attack the very secured metal box. I used a 2x4 and hammer until my wife came in and screamed at the mess the popcorn ceiling was making on the carpet beyond where the drop cloth covered. In the attic, where it was so hot lead was melting, I made my way to the box and removed it along with a pound of nails and installed the brace. One more to install late this winter.

westinghouse brace for ceiling fan
my handyman had to take the brace apart in order to get it between the ceiling joists, but had no problem installing after that, the screws into the fixture from the fan appeared at first not to fit, but after some manipulation, he was able to tighten them into place and it all went well after that, it was the first brace he ever saw that had screws at the ends to attach to the joists, i guess most have springs, so i would think this would hold better because of it, good product!

Very solid
Very solid and sturdy. My studs were only 13 inches apart so I actually had to use a hacksaw and cut this down, which was a pain, but easier than trying to get to the store during lockdown! I actually had access to the attic so I installed it from above, but it seems like trying to install it from below might be a challenge. It is very solidly installed and the fan doesn't move an inch, even on high.

Strong sturdy, but by a mold ring with it.
Easy to install and screw in. Very sturdy and rugged. But, be sure to buy a mold ring along with it because you may need to adjust the hole { cut out sheet rock } for the perfect fit.

So close to being great
Let me start out by saying the only reason I rated this bad is because the bar that goes across is round, so the bracket that goes over it doesn't stay tight (it moves back and forth). The instructions said not to overtighten it, but if you dont the hook is not sturdy and the fan rocks. I guess I over tightened it trying to stop it from rocking because the bolt that holds it together snapped in half. If this cross bar had been square rather than round this wouldn't have been an issue. I did love how you turn it to tighten it into the wood beams.

Works great
No guessing getting the outlet to be flush to the ceiling. Super easy to install!
