Works great!
It worked great and kept the rain out of our garage! Don't expect to move it once placed and fully wet. We placed a sheet of plastic under it so we could slide it out into the sun for drying when the heavy rain season was over. Does take forever to fully dry for storage but well worth the wait for the great job it did.

Post Irma Review - 5 stars with a caveat
Ok, so I got these RIGHT before Irma. I mean, literally at the 11th hour. I actually paid extra over regular Prime shipping to have them Overnighted and for some dastardly reason whomever shipped them put signature required on the low-value package and I MISSED the delivery and was not able to pick them up at my local UPS until the next day which was super-stressful, and only possible because the storm slowed down and changed course enough that it bought me the time to still deploy them. None of this is the fault of the product itself, of course, I only mention it here in case anyone else is in a similar situation and is ordering them last minute, be careful about that signature-required pitfall for overnight shipments. *Amazon did refund the extra I paid for overnight shipping.* As for the product itself, I waver between giving it four or five stars. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and give it 5 for now, because the minor insufficiencies I detect in the product MAY be due to my user error. It did not swell up evenly along its entire length, despite the fact that the entire length was definitely heavily rained on. I used them for my two-car garage door, my back porch, and to protect a feed room in a barn. None of these 3 locations have experienced actual water intrusion in the past, however, I have had water inch frighteningly close in past storms, and with images of Harvey fresh on my mind, I knew if we had anything even approaching half of what Harvey was, I was in for some deep trouble. Turns out, other than just the typical puddling I get in these areas, there was no real flooding threat from Irma for my area. So, although I can't boast that these Quick Dams saved my property from a great flood, I can testify that they do work because everywhere that I put them, they did stop what water there was from passing through them. I am just slightly concerned/puzzled about the parts that did not swell. Would they have swelled if the flooding had been more substantial? Or is that part of the dam defective? I don't know. I did read in a review on another one of this manufacturer's products that you should wet the dam with a hose first before use. The manufacturer includes NO instructions in the box, so I don't know if this makes a difference or not. Water is water, right? I will add the following tip that if you are expecting a flash flood, weighting down the ends of these dams with sandbags or cement blocks is a must, because they are very light, and I could see them being swept/blown away before they absorb enough water to be heavy enough to stay put. So, in that context, I would believe that wetting them down first is a good idea. But, again, I don't know about the failure of some parts of my dams to swell as I would think they should. Another insider tip, I had posted the question to the manufacturer if these dams could be cut to fit. I got the short answer "No, they can't, that will ruin them." Well, I had an extra and could afford to risk one, so I did. I of course double stitched a channel at the cut point before cutting it in half. I can confirm that cutting them in half does not ruin them and they work as normal. It is possible that the manufacturer's representative assumed that I did not have the ability to sew the ends and thought I was going to just cut one in half which I guess would allow the hydrophilic powder to leak out. Hence the apparent misinformation. I am currently using the short piece I cut under a stall door at the end of my barn aisle that frequently gets water leaking in from horses being hosed off at the washrack adjacent to it. For that alone, it works great and is a better solution to anything else I have found in 20 years of dealing with that problem. So that was my second reason to tip my review in favor of 5 stars for this product. Final point I'll make: be aware these dams aren't that high. When fully expanded it looks like they would keep no more than 2 or 3 inches of water out. As we all know, that alone can be a lifesaver. But don't count on them handling any more than that. I don't know why, but I was expecting them to be taller based on the pictures. Guess that was just my misconception. I wouldn't so much call them "flood control dams" as I would "creeping water dams". If I ever use them in a subsequent water event, I will update my review accordingly.

They were delivered fast!
We had unusual rain this year in CA, and found out our patio pools in an area close to my back door. We were able to create a path away from the door to the pump using these blockers. There was minimal water that slipped under the blocker, but without it would have been worse.

Works great and great value
These do the job easily and less expensive than most other options. No need to pre-wet, just put it in place and when the rain comes they expand and keep the water out.

Quick deployment with effective use - UPDATE 10/2/16
Prior to wet weather I purchased (3) of these as well as other sizes of Quick Dam to protect my home from potential water damage. We live in an area near a river that unfortunately has flooded (prior to our purchase of the home and not disclosed, and once while we've lived here ruining the duct system underneath the house). The last time we had 6" of water in our garage running through to the back patio. This resulted in mold and mildew issues, and other repairs. Trying to avoid those problems this year, and not wanting to have sand bags on hand, I purchased this product. This product is ideal for keeping water from running into a 2 car garage or setting up a barrier along a walkway. It's not very high, but it is effective as long as the water level is below the top of the flood barrier. --------------------------- What I like about this product: 1. Super easy to setup and use. Anyone of any age could use this product without an issue. *If it's raining when you set it up, it takes a matter of minutes for the moisture to activate the gel inside the flood barrier . 2. Can be moved more quickly than filled sand bags if needed (with two people). 3. Reusable and can be stored once dried out. 4. Strong, quality construction. 5. Comes in several sizes for various applications. 6. The 6" (wide) x 17' (long) size works perfectly to protect the opening to a 2 car garage. 7. The flood barriers are stack-able if needed. 8. You can drive over the barrier and have it come back to its original shape. **Only if it's not totally saturated with water and then you are likely to rupture it under the pressure.** ---------------------------- What I wish was better... 1. Drying this item out could take months if you had intermittent wet weather or lived in a place where humidity remains high. 2. These are somewhat expensive, but if you purchase ahead of the wet season you'll get a decent discount. 3. The height of the item is about 3-4" when fully expanded. This may not be high enough for some standing water, and while you can put one on top of the other doing this will prevent effective drying of the product. 4. If fully saturated, you cannot run over them without them rupturing and spilling out the goo inside. Hard to clean up and renders the item useless. The material used could be a bit tougher. -------------------------------- I'm very pleased with this product because it quickly and effectively solved my problem. It's not going to replace a wall of sandbags several feet high for major flood waters, but for diverting heavy rains or protecting doorways or similar, I think it's great. -------------------------------- ----------------------------------- UPDATE: 10/2/16 I did have to get rid of this item after one season, but I had driven over it (getting out of my garage) and left it in place for at least three months so this was expected. Eventually (with heavy rain and running over it when it was totally saturated) it did rupture and the beads that become big globs of goo when wet, spilled out onto the pavement. This wasn't tough to clean up when it was dry, but a headache when wet! I would like to see the company make them with a stronger material, but then again, if I'd not run over it - it probably wouldn't have broken open. I still love the product. Much easier for me to handle than sandbags (which we have too). It wouldn't be ideal for serious flooding, but it can keep about 3-4" of standing water from coming into my garage and that's what I was hoping for when I purchased this item. I will be buying more this season, although the prices have gone up a bit. **Check Amazon Warehouse for possible deals.** ----------------------------- ------------------------------------

LIFE SAVER!
Blocked a water flow that was going over door into basement until I could get the threshold gasket fixed on the bottom of the door. EXCELLENT PRODUCT.

Did what I needed them to do...
needed these to keep water away from my house this spring ... they worked great... laid them where I needed them and as soon as the water crept over and touched them, they absorbed it and swelled to described size and kept the water away.... now my friends and neighbors have ordered them also.... and I have a couple left to use in the house where-ever or if ever I I need them in the future....

Indoor protection against infiltrating water
The one gadget that may save your house during a flash flood. It just collects the water and never gets even damped. good to have just in case. It really works.

Great product
I was skeptical that this product would work as advertised, but it proved me wrong. I don't know how well it would do it you stacked up more than a few, but it did exactly what I was looking for.

Fantastic product
My property is the lowest on our street, and due to improper pipe sizing on a catch basin and a poorly graded ditch, I'm usually the relief valve for the neighborhood when the catch basin overflows. Not any more. I purchased six of the 17 foot flood barriers last year, and have the backyard protected. Five of the six are still as good as new (even though one got nicked by lawn mower). The sixth still has some 'active' gel in it; so I rolled the barrier, forcing the remaining gel into an approximate 8 foot section, making the barrier useful again. I purchased two more as back up. These barriers are fantastic.
