great rice cooker, so easy to use
2 part water, 1 part rice, stir, turn on, rice comes out perfect. i like to do small batches so it doesn't overflow, also place the spoon over the little hole on the lid to keep from spraying anything out.

Works Great
Bought this even though saw negative reviews and glad I have. I am always hesitant when seeing negative remarks on product so was nervous but it works great! Not meant for large family but perfect for mine! Lid holds on great and if you don't over fill container it works perfectly. Easy to clean and no damages from several uses. You do have to pay attention and not ignore it because then burning happens. No self turn off function! But stays warm when off for over an hour!

I really like this!
Nice! have used this item several times since purchase. Rice, several Vegetables. I have had 3 different kinds of rice cookers in the last 25 years---this is by far the best....Love it!

It's amazing
For the price, this thing is amazing. My purpose didn't need a large pot to cook for, as only needing meals for 1-2 people, mainly just myself. I've cooked virtually everything in here, lol. Rice, pasta, broccoli, beans, misc vegetables... reheating: pre-cooked chicken, pre cooked ribs. I combine this with a small indoor smokless grill to cook meats like chicken, beef, etc. While I ste some rice and vegetables in this, and I end up with a complete meal within 15 or so minutes. Cleanup is super simple, and enjoy that it came with the paddle, and steaming tray... I was looking for an option to leave the stove from steaming my rice and vegetables, as I was frequently forgetting when to turn the heat down and/or cover. This made it way better as I just have to push the button to turn it on, and it automatically switches to warm function when done. The only issue is if you're using the basket to steam or reheat other food, you'll need to manually add that at the right time if you don't want it to overcook, or undercook, as it appears the cooker just goes to warm once it senses the weight of the water has evaporated. I've gotten the timing pretty close down that I don't typically have issues with this, and this minor inconvenience still beats out breaking out multiple pots on the stove and controlling heat between them all at different intervals.

Lovely!
I was looking for a small rice maker that wouldn't make a huge mess or burn rice. THIS WAS THE ONE! It was inexpensive, easy as heck to clean, and reading reviews gave me a great tip! Tip 1 - USE THE SPOON TO COVER THE VENT! When cooking, water pops out of the lid vent, which makes a bit of a mess. Nothing too bad, but the more full the pot the more of a mess it makes. Simply place the white spoon over it, which does not BLOCK it, it only keeps the steam and water from shooting up. It rolls back into the pot and keeps rice moist and properly cooked perfect every time. Tip 2 - UNPLUG IT. This has a toggle switch. Press it down to turn it on. In 20 minutes it pops up, done cooking and keeps it on a warmer stage. I've found if you leave it on this it does heat the bottom too long, but that's natural. Keep heating and it's going to get dark on the bottom. I found that if I go out as i hear it pop up, and unplug it, t he rice not only stays warm for long enough, but it never burns. This is not a cook it and leave it all day pot. This i a cook it and use it once done pot. which is great for me. The warmer does indeed keep it warm, but I don't use it. It's pretty perfect and has yet to give me a bad pot of rice, and I wont over make rice now! The cup that comes with it is 180ml or 3/4th c up, so keep that in mind when measuring. I am unsure if this makes 6 "cups" as in what it's sold with or 6 CUPS as in the measurement, as I have yet to check how much is really made. But two of these 180ml cups tends to make a little over 4 CUPS cooked? And t hat works for me and guests. Bonus Tip: Wash your rice and the mess will always be 100 times less to clean up and a better tasting rice :D

Great Value for Simple Needs!
Background: I loved using my compact, 3-cup Tiger rice cooker with many features when I lived abroad, and I bought it brand new for the equivalent of $40. It's still going strong and now in my friend's hands after 7 years. Back here in the US, that cooker is $100-plus. I didn't want to spend that much money on a rice cooker when I live alone and only used the "white rice", "mixed rice", "multigrain", and steaming features. But, I didn't want the cooking quality to be poor because that is just a waste of time, money, and...good rice. Ultimately, I settled for purchasing this Proctor Silex model. And, so far, I'm glad I did! It's barebones and only $19.99 at the time of purchase, but it cooks my short grain Koshihikari-style rice just fine. I did notice that the short grain rice was too wet the first time that I made rice when I measured the rice cup exactly at 1 cup. So I added a little bit more rice jussssst past the line (not enough to hit the top though) and still added the water exactly at the 1 cup line. The rice came out perfect for me. I will follow the manufacturer instructions for medium grain rice and see if anything needs tweeking. I have steamed onions and squash on the tray (took out 10-15 minutes depending on desired tenderness) while cooking rice and everything came out great. I can't speak on the full capacity of the cooker because I only cook one cup for myself a day. While the rice cooks in this cooker, I have NEVER had issues with splattering, nor over bubbling from out of the lid or the small hole on the lid. But, I also rinse and drain the rice in the pot 3 to 4 times (enough until the water isn't too cloudy) prior to adding the measured water to the rice. Rinsing removes extra starch and I remember when I had my former, more expensive cooker and didn't feel like rinsing the rice: the starchy water definitely sputtered from the top of the vent and onto my table. I am aware that this is anecdotal evidence, but I also know that my counter-tops are mess-free when this rice cooker does its thing. YMMV. Another thing about this cooker's first use: when I made the rice, and it was on the warm setting for 5 minutes after, the bottom center of the rice was starting to burn. I was worried that would be a common occurrence with the cooker and was contemplating complaining and/or returning. Luckily, the first time that happened was the only time. Times after, I have even had the warm setting on after cooking had finished for 20 minutes- no burning nor crispiness on the rice at the bottom of the pot. I am very happy with this purchase!

It's a bit early to be rating this, frankly
I chose this brand because it looks and works exactly like the old "Betty Crocker" rice cooker I had, that lasted at least 20 years. So far, it seems to work as well, and I'm happy with that, but I've only had it a few weeks, and used it three times, so whatever I say is only relevant to something brand new. It takes longer than advertised to cook the rice, but I usually cook brown rice, and that takes longer anyway. It is easy to clean but you do have to be careful as the non-stick surface on the earlier one wasn't tough, and this looks the same. It is extremely easy to use - doesn't offer to do half a dozen other things - it just cooks grains reliably while you get on with other things. I haven't used the veggie steamer. If it lasts even half as long as the one I replaced with it, it'll be a terrific value for money.

Wonderful rice cooker and no messy cleanup
I have been using this rice cooker for 4 months now. It cooks the rice perfectly each time, and the non-stick surface cleans up like a dream. I have hand washed it, and I have also put it (and the spoon and lid and steamer tray) in the top rack of the dishwasher. I like the fact that I can steam vegetables at the same time as cooking rice; BE SURE TO USE only use 1 unit of rice (from the included measuring cup) if you are going to also steam vegetables. The veggies will stain the steamer (it's plastic) but I don't consider that a big deal. There is a spoon holder in the handles so you can put the included rice spoon there and keep it up off the counter. Everything stores inside the cooker. Highly recommended.

Great value for the price!
Used my rice cooker for the first time today. Worked perfectly cooking 4 cups of rice to yield 8 cups of cooked rice. Fills the bowl right up to the top of the pot. Great value for the price. The only downfall is that the electrical cord could be lengthened by about 2 feet.

Not very big
Smaller than I expected but works well.
