Just Too Short for Bolts

As a trucker, we cut bolts every once in awhile. These 18” will work, but after a dozen bolts, I’m going to buy the 24” model. The 18” is simply too short. You really have to torque down on the 18” until POW! it cuts through and everything goes flying. I’ve been using longer handle models at receivers in order to avoid using my 18” model and it’s simply smoother.

Key to the city

These bolt cutters are great! Easily carried in a backpack at night, as to not draw suspicion. No lock has defeated them, so much free stuff!

Wow, even at my age this is great

I'm senior and female with limited upper arm strength so I worried these might be beyond me ... but I needed to be able to cut steel chains used to latch trash can lids, feed bins, and hen coops against country scavengers (yes, I'm talking about you, raccoons!) They work well and I can use them with ease and success, what more needs to be said. Easy to store with the foldaway handles. Good deal.

Well made but a larger pair of bolt cutters would be more powerful.

I learned after buying these bolt cutters that strength in cutting off old padlocks, from equally made bolt cutters, will go to the larger pair of bolt cutters. This 18" Olympia bolt cutters being reviewed is good for its small size. But I have learned from experience that larger bolt cutters cut through the shackle on old pad locks with much less effort. With these 18" bolt cutters, you really have to put some serious arm muscle into your cuts. Oh well, this was one of those "learn by doing" experiences for me that we all experience in life. D.W.

Cutting edge needs radiused.

Very sturdy, but the cutting edge needed radiused. I couldn’t cut through a bolt seal on a semi trailer until I rounded off the cutting edges. Don’t put a sharp edge on the cutting surfaces as it will wear out prematurely.

Glad bought the 18" size - you can see the before and after picture the size of the lock I had on my outside gate. Needed a little effort as a 60-year-old but, Worked Great the first try! They are heavy duty! Like the compact design for storage. old man, but the lock cut in less than 30 secs I would recommend to buy these for almost $40 instead of the smaller cutters 14" for $20 Did not want to waste my time and spent the extra monies to be sure Glad I did - they are a keeper

Compact cutters, gets the job done

These are not precision machined. They work well if you need the small profile. However, if you need cutters for routine use, you may want to look elsewhere. The first pair that I got had an issue with the handles being offset, as they drilled the hole in the wrong spot. This caused the cutters to fold unevenly, with one handle hitting the head on the metal part of the handle, and the other on the plastic part. Also, the jaws closed with the back part of the jaws touching before the first, leaving a 2mm or so gap in front. I returned those and got a replacement. The replacement is much better. The handles close properly and evenly on each side, and the jaws close much better, almost parallel. There is a bit of play on the handle joints, and the head, but it works fine for cutting 1/8 or larger bolts. The product tag is wrapped around one of the red levers, and if you do not pay attention, some of the plastic wire that connects the tab could get stuck in the joint/spring, making the latch malfunction until it is removed. I saw this complaint of the latch not working in some other reviews, and I suspect this is the case.

Handy tool, no instructions ????

This is a very handy tool to have and fits perfectly in my tool bag. I have marked it down though because it doesn't come with any instructions on how to adjust the bolt cutter jaws etc

Flimsy, for light duty only.

These bolt cutters are much flimsier then anticipated. Tried cutting it a small lock (average sized locker lock) and was only able to cut it with 1⃣ arm of the bolt cutters against the floor. A lot of effort required for small locks. I'll be returning mine and getting something more capable.

Funcional, a buen precio, acabados podrían ser mejores

La pieza cumple su función, es portable, sin embargo los acabados no son los mejores, tiene partes que se bailan mucho, pero ya desplegada y a la hora de cortar, no tiene fallas, pude cortar un candado mediano sin problemas. Para el precio está bastante bien, el único problema es el acabado pero en cuanto a funcionalidad todo bien.

Excelentes a un precio accesible, la función de plegado es muy útil para ahorrar espacio, la pieza se siente de calidad y con buenos acabados, la usé para cortar un candado mediano sin problemas. Algunos compradores mencionan problemas con los acabados de los seguros, que no enganchan, pero no fue mi caso.
