Very Bright White Light
This bulb is not the same as the one that comes with the Hex 5 aquarium. This bulb gives off a bright white light, which some people may like but I actually prefer the original bulb which gives off a softer type of light. I have two Hex 5 tanks with exactly the same set up in each one, except that one still has the original bulb. The tank that I put this replacement bulb in suddenly became overgrown with algae after changing the bulb. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but I had no algae problems before changing the bulb to this bright white one and my other tank is crystal clear as always. So, I'm on the hunt for a bulb like the one that came with the aquarium.

Well ...
I have a small reef tank and needed a bulb quickly when I came back from vacation to find my bulb dead. Ha. It's for freshwater, but it worked to maintain the day/night schedule until I could finally track down a compact reef bulb. not a bad deal, at all, especially since I had no idea what bulb I needed, initially. Thanks, Amazon.

Good light
I live out in the country so it's not economical for me to go into town to buy a replacement bulb for an aquarium, that's where Amazon comes into play. Strong light, lasts about a year, whitish hue, not yellow like the standard bulbs. Good product.

Nice light but very short-lived
This replacement bulb worked quite well--while it lasted. We bought it in April of this year (2017); it died at the end of July. And, we do not use our aquarium light excessively, especially during the summer. This bulb had the shortest life of any replacement bulb we've purchased, to date.

good bulb
I highly recommend this bulb. I have it over a 5 gal aquarium and it's perfect amount of light for fish, and plants are going crazy.

Poor Shipment Quality
You are better off looking in a real store for these bulbs, and not buy them online. I purchased two of these bulbs, as a power surge took out two of my Eclipse System 12 existing lights. The price was right, so I bought. Shipping was fast, but the quality was poor. The bulbs came in just one carrier envelope, with very little padding. You would think a little more care would go into the packaging of these. Just as you can imagine, one of the bulbs was completely smashed and, thus, unusable. The second bulb was installed, and immediately burnt out (sending a power surge throughout the rest of the circut). This I am not blaming on anyone, but it is apparent that the wiring in the hood was damamged, and not just the bulb itself. Please take note of that if you are in a similar situation.

Perfect Replacement
This fantastic light bulb produced light. Not just any light, but light that made the aquarium look like it was illuminated by a compact fluorescent bulb. I suspect most of my freshwater fish were pleased, though they've thus far declined to officially comment. The green algae, however thought it was merely "adequate" compared to conventional sunlight. The algae are still growing, but feel that total aquarium domination is a bit out of reach. The bulb is still going strong after a couple of months. The downside? All fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. Don't send them to landfills. One day we'll have appropriate long-lived LEDs to reduce the number of bulbs we're discarding.

High Price - Low Quality.
If you have one of the Marineland aquariums that require this lamp then you have no choice but to buy it. They do not last long and they are very expensive in my opinion. You really have no choice but to buy it if you want a light on your aquarium, so a review is kind of redundant.

Exactly what you want for your Eclipse System 12 system - 13 Watt/PL 2 PIN Compact Fluorescent if you are NOT going LED.
To those who are looking for a System Eclipse 12 replacement bulb, this is the product you are looking for. The current Amazon Photo doesn't clearly show the box type of what is actually shipped and anyone who has previously purchased this Marineland aquarium lamp will know what I mean. The product that was shipped comes in a blue "water picture background" box. On the box it says that he bulb fits all 13 watts/PL aquarium fixtures including Eclipse 12 Integrated Aquarium Systems. The top label says 5000K. It's only if you look under the bottom of the box, will you then see tiny white writing of PA0420. I'm definitely going to purchase one or two more of these from Amazon to have on hand as they are getting more difficult to find. The local PetSmart stores in the Vancouver lower mainland seem to no longer carry these bulbs. LED technology is the trend now and while I'm interested in LED, my current integrated Eclipse 12 is a bit finicky to retro fit. Perhaps one day I will find the LED solution.
