Really nice

Easy to read. Sturdy build

Decent quality if not totally square

I bought a more expensive square hoping it would be precise in it's perpendicularity but it is not. The angle was acute by about .04" (a bit less than 3/64") over the run of it's 24 Inch leg and probably good enough for most carpentry. This was tested by aligning the short leg to a straight edge and marking a line along the long edge then flipping the square and repeating. This technique doubles any error making it easy to see. The square is aluminum and so in addition to being light, it is also easy to correct. There are probably videos on this but basically if you need to open up the angle, you center punch near the vertex the inside corner. Some people do multiple center punch hits. I do one on each side approximately on top of each other and just increase their depth until the angle is good. Right now the error is imperceptible. Aluminum when stressed tends to move over time so I'll check it again in a week after it has settled and tune as appropriate until the square is stabilized. FYI Dropping a square should immediately put it's accuracy into question. Grew up with an antique American made steel square that never lost it's accuracy. Wish we could do things as well as they did 100 years ago. Markings are all stamped into the metal and easy to read. If you are willing to massage it a bit you can end up with a decent square.

It's a Framing square....and does it's job, but not high contrast

It's a framing square, not much to complain about. The only thing I can call out, it isn't high contrast, at least for my eyes. If you are looking for something really easy to glance at and read, I wouldn't say this one will pop out at you.

Don’t listen to the negativity

Don’t listen to the negative reviews, the people that wrote those don’t understand a framing square.. they go out of square when they are dropped.. they are used for rough framing.. your not building pianos.. they are easily adjusted back in square with a center punch... for the money this square is just what I wanted.. light weight and easily readable .. if you want a square that is more accurate than you are, get a starrett.. I’m a carpenter and this will serve me fine..

What you see is not what you get.

The images make it look easy to read, and I bought it because the company color scheme would suggest the same. However, the markings are just as difficult to see as any other. So, because the ad copy doesn’t match the product, I rate it one star.

Out of square.

It is hard to like something about a framing square that is not square. However, I do like the contrast and it is easy enough to read. Main complaint is that it is out of square a good 1/16 inch over the 2 foot length of the square. I could try and bring it in to square with a punch and would do so if it were not brand new. I feel that a brand new product should be perfect for what it is intended to do, in this case be "Square". second major complaint regards the packaging that was 2nd or 3rd rate also. The shipping box dimensions are 31 " wide x 25 1/2 " high x 3 5/8" inches deep. There were plastic sleeves on each arm of the square and 1 sheet of paper (roughly the same perimeter size as the box), folded like an accordion and laying on the bottom of the box. Thus the square was flapping around on the inside of the box like a fish out of water. Can see where this could cause ample opportunity for damage during shipping. I will be repackaging this square exactly as I received it and returning this product. Daniel

How did I get along without one? This Irwin square is straight and true, which is all I ask of it. Easy to read numbers and values, which is a nice bonus. I just wish someone would make one out of aluminum in high-contrast yellow and black.
