A Beast for the price
I had this little Hoover Wind Tunnel for almost eight years and it finally gave up. I tried another similar vacuum but it was bulky and not user friendly. I searched for the Wind Tunnel Air Steerable and was thrilled to find it still in production. Everything about it is great. Fantastic suction and it almost goes without pushing it. It's easily converted to the wand use. The wand is long, not a stub like other vacuum cleaners. There are a couple useful on board tool. It's easily emptied and the filters are easy to clean and change. I highly recommend this mighty machine For the price it's almost as good as a Dyson I had.

Excellent Vacuum Without Breaking The Bank!
I have had this vacuum for about 6 months. The first time I used it was in my old apartment that had not been cleaned for at least 1-1/2 years by a carpet cleaning crew before I moved in. I vacuumed using a $50 vacuum that had a bag and rolled along behind the hose. I thought my carpets were mostly clean because I used the $50 vacuum to vacuum once every week or other week and picked up a good amount of dust and hair each time (about half a bag). This Hoover WindTunnel Air Steerable made me realize just how disgusting the carpet actually was and how useless the $50 vacuum was too. I filled up and emptied the Hoover canister at least ten times for only 700 square feet of carpet! It was fine dust, dirt, and a lot more human and pet hair (that didn't belong to my little dog) that I vacuumed up right after using the other vacuum. The other $50 vacuum I had was sent to goodwill. After seeing the performance of the Hoover, I will never go "cheap" on a vacuum again. I then had a professional carpet cleaning company come in and clean the carpets. There was dirt embedded in the high traffic areas of the carpets that anyone could see that the hoover could not pick up. Only a good professional shampoo and steam cleaner could get it out. However, the carpet guy only removed about a small coffee can size worth of hair and other large particles after he cleaned. The hoover removed almost all of it before he showed up. I vacuumed again about three days after the professional left and filled up another canister with fine dust and dirt that was loosened up from the professional cleaning and a very small amount of hair. The carpets looked almost brand new and I felt that they were finally clean. I used the hoover about every two weeks and picked up half a canister each time. I was able to maintain the carpet for three months before moving out and I was not charged a cleaning fee by the apartment complex because of how clean the Hoover was able to maintain the carpets after the professional cleaner did his work a few months before. The suction and mobility with the steerable function are awesome. The tools and the handle extension with the long hose makes it easy to reach any place and very good for couches and furniture. It can get high hard to reach spots as well. My only gripe is the little tool with the brush does not have a very good plastic so the plastic push button to hold the brush out sometimes pushes in and allows the brush to slide back exposing only the plastic edge. I have been able to push the button out and bend it some to hold the brush in place. Also, the brush rollers on the bottom are not too easy to clean as a lot of hair gets tied up around them. I just use a sharp pocket knife to cut the hair and pull it out when too much gets clogged up. The filter is easy to wash and clean and is supposed to be a lifetime filter. It is a very nice feature to have and I love having a bagless vacuum. The true test of this vacuum was when I moved into my new apartment. It smelled like smoke even after the carpet was "professionally" cleaned (paying the special $60 carpet cleaning guys is a waste of money to get a job done right). I spread a few boxes worth of baking soda out on all of the carpet areas rubbed it in. I let the baking soda sit for a few days and then came back with the Hoover. After vacuuming up most of the super fine baking soda, I was able to get most of the cigarrete smoke smell out of the apartment. I would not have been able to get it with the old vacuum because the baking soda was too fine and deep in the carpet to pickup. It was not a problem for the hoover. I just washed the filter when I was done and it was clean and ready to go again. I would highly recommend this vacuum for its value and its performance. The expensive Dyson may work better (have never used it) but the Hoover does the job and doesn't break the bank. I have used it on carpet and laminate and it works at getting anything loose out including the dust that is deep in the carpet. I wouldn't go with anything less in performance than this product.

Missing contents but preformance is good.
Preformed better than I expected. Only used it for the first time today since it only came in today. The box was damaged and the plastic wrapping on the inside was torn. In some places on the vac it appeared to have been previously used. But everything was clean so I dismissed that red flag. I am now reading the manual only to realize that the pet turbo tool, extended crevice tool, pet upholstery tool and the black mesh bag with loop are all missing.

1-3 yrs life. Throw Away. For "qualified user". Great price, lightweight, sucks dirt & hair. Needs maintain/clean/assemble.
Review of the Hoover Air Steerable upright bagless UH72400 Two and Three year update. I have two of them, identical. One is about three years old and one is about two years old. The BAD: The problems with this vacuum are as follows: The plastic parts can easily break. Depending upon what parts you break, the vacuum will need repair. The motor brushes aren't replaceable and they go in about three years or normal use. The motor costs about $70 to buy if you fix it yourself. It's terrible that the brushes are not user serviceable. Terrible. The suction is very good but sometimes it's so strong that the cleaner sticks to the floor or mat or carpet too much. Cleaning of the parts is a Very Messy undertaking. (I don't know that there's any answer to this) Cleaning and maintenance is not only messy but a little complex. The hoses can get filled with debris and the machine stops sucking. The Good, I already listed. I like the simplicity, which normally leads to reliability, lower weight and lower costs. Bottom line, it is a personal choice and a trade off of features, costs, weight, and maintenance requirements (qualify yourself). But I like it, even after a full year of using it in a very dirty, doggy environment. It's been run quite hard. I plan to buy a second for the apartment. I recommend it for qualified buyer. Simply put there is “no free lunch”. Decide what trade space you are OK with and go in that direction when selecting a vacuum cleaner. For what I want and willing to deal with, this is a good machine. I'm willing to learn how to assemble, disassemble, clean, maintain, provided it does the job well. It does the job and vacuums quite well. The good: Purchase price is right. Anything at $100 +/- is a modern manufacturing miracle. It's a simple machine, so it tends to have fewer things to break, carry, store, or lose. It's light enough. Can't see how it could be any lighter. It's maneuverable enough. Uprights tend to be, but this one is more so. Something like 4-6 layers of filtration and a clever air flow, which may be state of the design these days. Seems to capture most everything, yet without a bag. The balance, ease of use, ease of carry, maneuverability are all quite good. Sucks pretty good, with a tight fit from the base to the floor/carpet. No height adjustment, it just rolls to the correct height. So less weight w/o height adjustment system. Durable: I've run it for 3 hours straight, 4 periods, over a heavy carpet, pulling pounds of dirt and dog hairs. Provided I followed my own maintenance advice, it kept doing the job asked of it. When I didn't do my part of the job, it overheated and quit working. But that was easy for me to resolve. The not-so-good: The wire is long which is good but it doesn't retract. Kind of gets in the way and I get lazy putting it on and off and moving it as I work. But it's lighter and simpler than cord retraction devices, so I live with it graciously. It requires maintenance/cleaning out of parts. Much more than a bag-based machine. You mustn't allow the canister to get full or the roller to be clogged or other problems may develop. The hose tends to get clogged and you must check that regularly. It will tend to clog more if you allow the brush and/or the canister to get full of stuff. When it clogs I carefully use a metal coat hanger wire that I bend to fit like a long fish hook and carefully remove the clog. Sometimes I have to remove four screws and take the roller plate off to get all the debris. The fit of the canister back together and back onto the machine is a bit fickle. If you don't have any mechanical ability whatsoever or you are a klutz, this might not be a good machine for you. You must make sure all the pieces are going together properly. Even checking the air passage interfaces are sealing correctly. You must read the tiny instructions for assembly on each of the part. If you force Anything, more and bigger problems result. Follow the instructions and everything will be all right. CAUTION: It does require regular maintenance and just a bit of ability. But I consider this a fair trade-off for all the plusses. If you don't maintain it, it will fail! It has several well-known and correctable failure modes without costing. But do these things: 1) You MUST empty the canister regularly. By watching it through the clear plastic if things aren't going around in a circle, it's too full or has some other maintenance required. 2) You MUST clean off the roller brush. If it gets tangled up with long hairs, strings or similar, it will jam it up and you might burn out the belt and have less cleaning. You may have to cut that stuff off of it. * If you don't do the above two often and properly, then you will have other problems that could seem more serious. 3) You MUST check the hose leading from the ground for any stuck debris. If it isn't wide open, you must clear it out. It may require removal of the bottom plate to get full access. This machine clogs hoses more than most others I have owned. But again, I still like this machine overall. Also tap all the filters into the trash, and there is a hidden one above the motor housing. Easy enough to get to but easy to overlook. If you don't empty the canister, tap out the filters and check the hose for clogging, you will overheat the unit and it will try to save itself by shutting down until it cools. When it overheats, simply take the canister off, and the hepa filter and leave it out too cool down. It should reset. But do not run it if the roller, hose, and canister are not all clear. Do not run it if it isn't assembled properly. Look carefully that all the air ducts mate properly. Four instead of five stars only because many users will not keep up with the canister emptying and roller and hose debris checks and they might assemble after emptying incorrectly. But we love the machine anyway because I can do all those things and I'd rather not have a costlier, heavier, and less reliable unit. Bottom line: I can no longer recommend this vacuum cleaner. But if it's considered a throw away, if you get the right price, it's pretty good. Don't plan on a long life. Replacement parts are expensive. The brushes are not replaceable, a HUGE downside.

very good product
Light weight. I used to have one many years ago and was looking for the same one. It is the same but more modern. Very happy with my purchase. I am a senior woman 79 yrs old and light weight is recommended for seniors.

Great for pet hair
I already have one of these, and decided to get another while they are still available. Very good suction and excellent for pet hair. We have multiple German Shepherds and Border Collies and there’s always at least one of them shedding. One tip - don’t let the canister get overfilled before emptying it - it just makes life easier. Switching between carpet and hardwood or laminate flooring is super easy. An all around great vacuum in my opinion.

Not a powerful vacuum, but lightweight and compact
I was disappointed that this vacuum isn't powerful at picking up dust: it's about the same as the cheap 10-year-old Bissell it replaced. On the other hand, it's much lighter and has a smaller vacuum head, making it easier to get underneath furniture. The dust cannister is quite small, and it has a plastic cylinder in the middle that makes it harder to empty all the dust. The process of using the wand is awkward: you have to move the hose from the "floor" opening to the "hose" opening. It had me stumped at first, since the diagram in the manual isn't clear and I've never had a vacuum like that. Overall, the design and build quality is subpar. I wouldn't buy this model again. One last thing: the first one I ordered was shipped in a plain cardboard box without any padding. It was missing some parts, had a broken handle. I assume that it was returned sloppily by someone else and Amazon just shipped it off to me without checking it. Although Amazon replaced it without much hassle, it shook my confidence in Amazon's shipping process.

Amazing, reliable, ever lasting
I had the same vacuum for 12 years and it never failed me but the handle and the suction tube broke after 12 years of use. I was really happy to find the same one at amazon. I am good for another 12 years. Thanks
