A powerful 24V cordless multi-tool but the blade holder mechanism can be difficult
The media could not be loaded. I'd been holding off getting an oscillating tool for a while but when I found this 24-volt cordless tool from Greenworks, I was eager to try it out. The 24v Li-Ion battery is a few volts higher than many of its cordless competitors so one would expect a little more power than a 20-volt tool. Technically it's labeled as a 21.6V battery with a max voltage of 24V. I can't compare with others but for a cordless tool, I can say that this does deliver on power. This kit comes with a few basic attachments so you can start cutting, sanding or scraping almost right away. It includes the 2Ah battery and charger. There are a number of situations where an oscillating tool can be used but for one particular project I needed to create a 12" square opening for plumbing access. This tool made cutting through drywall a breeze and produces a lot less dust than many other cutting tool options. Having used a multitude of powered hand tools over many years of fabrication and home improvements, this one feels solid in your hands and is very easy to control. The vibration is very low but it does get a little loud when running at full speed and power. The tool features a feedback mechanism that sends more current to the motor when you push harder on the tool so you'll hear and feel the tool working more when it needs to. I've noticed this same feature with their battery mowers. Depending on size of your project, you'll probably need to buy extra cutting blades as the ones provided appear very basic. They have no labeling so I'm unsure how long they'll last cutting through metal. The blade fitting does appear to be universal so most oscillating tool attachments should fit. My main negative observation is that the blade clamp system can be a little difficult to engage without some practice and ensuring that the receiving clamp is perfectly aligned in its slot. The lever has to be rotated to both release and clamp the attachments. The clamp is basically a long bolt that threads into the flip lever on top but it's the lever that screws onto the clamp screw. If the clamp isn't seated correctly it won't lock or sit down far enough and so the threads won't engage the receiving "nut" beneath the flip lever. Once you've had a few unplanned releases of a blade, you quickly figure out how to be sure it's clamped securely. The work-light also has limited usefulness depending on the blade attachment and/or your working angle but this was only a minor complaint. Overall, I'm impressed with this tool so far and having used other Greenworks tools in the past I'm hoping this will also last a long time.

Handy
If you need something like this, you know it. This works very well and takes the heads from other popular tools of it's type. Big thing for power tools in my home is that stuff like this has to work well for a variety of hand sizes without endangering us using it. Which means it's can't be too big or vibrate too much for my small hands for sanding/refinishing things, but also needs to be something that my husband can hold without having to find a place to put his much longer fingers. This works. We've been happy with the Greenworks tools we've gotten in the past, and I'm happy with this one.

Too complicated

When I saw this on TV some years ago, I was impressed, and it works almost as good.
Very interesting tool with a multitude of used. I recently got my electrician to finish the work he started months ago and then forgot me. I had a dedicated circuit on the back covered porch to put in a free-standing AC unit. He had to run a conduit across the false ceiling and connect it to a brick inner wall. The other 2 walls of the porch are large glass panes, and a treated wood lower section. The previous owner must have at one time tries a small window AC unit as there is a rectangular cut and a plywood patch in that shape. Thats where this tool came is great. I used it to cut through the plywood and follow a pencil line I drew the shape of the air vent connector. For those who've never used a free-standing AC unit I have one in the back bedroom since it was an addition to the house and hard to cool. Most of these units come with a kit to create a vent connection on the windowsill of a standard window. There is usually a rectangular plate, and a connection port that you connect a large vent hose to. Very similar to a dryer vent hose. AC units are designed to let cooled air in and vent the hot air outside so this is how a free-standing unit works. I was able to trace and fit the plastic frame to plug the hose into. Now although it's too late in the year to use, I can cool my porch. This has a lot of other uses as sell and I next tried the sander tool in the basement. I recently had to remove an old industrial carpet in the utility room soaked by a failed water heater. Underneath was a green painted concrete floor. For some reason near the sump pump there was a large spot of peeling concrete paint. I scraped off the excess and put the sander to work I had some spare concrete paint. Although it was gray, after sanding with the tool a nice smooth edge I painted the bare spot. One more job again with the sander I have two wide flattop rails outside my porch door. They are painted white, but with a flat white paint. They tend loose the paint quickly because they get wet in the rain even under a small awning. I was able to sand them in minutes and apply a new coat of paint to the top. My only complaint besides a little noisy (which I expected) is my hands are still vibrating long after I use the tool maybe padded gloves would help, this has a vibration to it when used. Many uses, recommended.
