Like taking a burner from a kitchen gas stove on the road

There are several models of this stove: a 9,000 BTU (GS-3000), a 10,000 (GS-3500), and the one being reviewed (GS-3800). I bought the GS-3800 that came with a plastic carrying case. This is a great stove. It is compact, fairly small if used for car camping, and delivers a nice flame. It is like cutting out one of the gas burners from a nice kitchen stove and taking it on the road. My main worry was about the fuel, having ordered it with little chance to get a different one if I couldn't find the fuel. As others advised, I was able to find the fuel for $1.50 a can at a large Asian grocery store. The small store I tried first did not carry any fuel. The large one I went to (in a former Best Buy location) carried the fuel and, tpo my great relief, it was the first thing I saw when I walked in the door. When I bought it, most reviews complained about receiving a broken carrying case. I was lucky and received a stove and case that were undamaged. Obviously, I can't say what the chance is of receiving a broken case or whether they have fixed that problem completely. The case is handy, but not essential. It was worth the price I paid with or without the case. Since the parts that support cooking pots or pans can come out, it is very nice to have a case, but I could have found a heavy-duty fabric or leather bag for it.

More powerful - an upgrade

I have been using a gasone dual propane / butane for 2 years and it still working. I liked using propane best as it was more powerful, but it was cumbersome to put away for travel in my camper van as it needed to be detached each time. With this "butane only" gasone the butane flame is more powerful and so I don't miss the propane. So lightweight too!

Damaged product. Bent misshapen.

The Canister door is misaligned. It won’t close or lock into place. The screw is rusted already. The frame opposite to the Knob and locking lever side is bent into the Canister compartment. The enamel coating is scratched off even before I received it. I did turn it on and then burner discolored instantly from a steel to a brown red blue tint. The positive with this model is the spiral flame and the wind guard is detachable. I am considering returning this and going for a Iwatani. A simple plan steel material with detachable wind guard would be easy to clean and no paint chipping issues.

Wrong expression of advatizing this commodity ( Butane gas canister is missing)

I apppreciate Amazon's effort to deliver the Gas stove as promised even on Sunday. However, to my great regret, the package did not contain a gas canister which is shown in the photo attached to commodity explanation ( see top of this page). I expected the fuel for cooking right on the arrival, but i could not use the stove, because it was not contained in the package. Although I understand why the gas canister cannot be delivered, I just hate the misleading advertising and hope it will be straightned soon.

Gas One compact camping or emergency stove

I like that Gas One stoves have safety features so they have a safety shutoff if there is any leaking gas. They also have a thermal heat shield so the gas doesn't heat up between the butane compartment and the burner. That is what sold me on it. Most of them are similar but I liked those features. It is metal and has a plastic case to store it in. It is a nice size, not too small so if I have a pan on top of the burner, it doesn't feel too small underneath. It feels stable. I got it for a cooking source for a power outage but I could use it camping or for an extra burner for large meals.

Excellent burner that does everything right

Very durable and reliable burner. Has fine grained flame control that allows for very low and very high flames and everything in between. The lighter is super reliable and always lit the flame on the first try. The locking mechanism for ensuring that the butane canister is inserted correctly is easy to use and feels safe and durable. The switch for enabling the fuel flow is a nice safety feature that made it easy to ensure that the gas only flowed when we wanted it to. A single butane canister is good for an hour or more even at the highest fuel flow settings. The carrying case makes it easy to securely pack the burner away with other gear while keeping it clean and dry at the same time. The black enamel surface cleans fairly easily and seemed pretty durable although it does accumulate rough spots over time, I think that's inevitable with a finish like this. It does look beautiful and sleek right out of the packaging and still looks quite nice even after dozens of uses. Highly recommended.

It's worth every penny

Works great, heated my wok up nice and hot and fast. I have a glass cooktop which would not heat the wok up properly and to avoid scratching the surface

The Sterno brand cartridges worked fine. Cooked a simple meal on the stove

I ordered three units. The one for our household worked perfectly first time out of the box. It was a challenge to buy cartridges quickly. I was able to purchase a pack of 12 Sterno brand cartridges and have them shipped to a local Grainger store in two days. The Sterno brand cartridges worked fine. Cooked a simple meal on the stove. It heated the pan quickly and evenly. The manual has ominous warnings about where to use these stoves and where to store cartridges. It was purchased to use with a Japanese ceramic cooker. The cooker says to use only on a gas stove. A store demonstration of the ceramic pot used a small gas stove like the Gas One. The stove manual says not use cook with ceramic containers.

An excellent stove!

I've been using this regularly for past few months and it hasn't let me down. This stove has an additional ring in the middle of the burner that creates more heat output. Because of this, I also find that the heat is more evenly distributed when using frying pans and such. I do find that some areas on the stovetop are hard to clean and you must be careful of the sharp edges. I keep the stove stored in the case that it comes in. Unfortunately my case arrived with a large crack in it but it still works fine. I'm glad I purchased this stove and look forward to using it for many years.

No surprises, be they bad or good.

I've had a few of these as their lifespan is not infinite. Bought this one as it said it was better quality and higher heat output. It appears to be about the same as the others to me in those respects, hence one star docked. I do not appreciate that GasOne treats the consumer as a child and tries to intimidate you into only using GasOne cannisters to fuel this stove, (the ones from my local Asian Market work just fine) so for that little trick I removed a star as well. If you want to use any of these stoves for car camping or chilly picnics when it starts to get cold outside, you can improve performance considerably if you can find cannisters that contain Isobutane instead of N-Butane (just like with Cricket Lighters as opposed to BIC's for example). Now that's something worthwhile that GasOne could do if they really wanted to improve their products: start to market Isobutane cannisters for consumers who live in cold climates.

Just what I was looking for!!!

Good heat output for cooking. Will burn at a low flame for a simmer. Easy start. Easy to load fuel canisters. Fuel is relatively inexpensive. Carry case is cheap but convenient. Great back up for power outages (hint, hint NSPI). I bought this for cooking with my wok, as it throws more heat than my electric ranges cooktop. Would have liked the 15 000 btu model, but couldn’t justify the big price increase.

My main reason for rating 4 stars and not 5 is that because it is priced at a premium I expect it to be perfect. The only issue

This is my first portable butane stove and after researching several brands and models I decided to order this GS-3800DF even though it was priced more than double most other butane stoves. The advantages of this stove over others was the 12,000 btu (Gas-one website), thermal conductive plate and the brass burner. My main reason for rating 4 stars and not 5 is that because it is priced at a premium I expect it to be perfect. The only issue I have is that the particular stove I received the burner wasn't perfectly centered below the pot holder. This in no way affected the usability or performance and is really only an aesthetic nit picking issue. The stove itself functioned perfectly. Easy setup, easy starting, surprisingly precise flame control, excellent heating and convenient storage case. I wanted to give this model a try before ordering a second given the price, but after trying it I'll be getting a second one soon. Will update this review later to speak to the durability after owning it for a while. Also quite pleased it arrived quickly and before expected delivery date.

Not Reliable

When it worked it was good, because of the higher flame output, you burn through more fuel, unfortunately, ran one season where it was used 2 times, tried to use it this season and it won't light, replaced it with a new fuel tank still nothing. I bought it thinking it was a premium unit. I guess not.
