A word of warning to those who've waited for the starter kit!
This game is fantastic and likely to be a highly regarded addition to the paper and pencil rpg genre of board games. HOWEVER! If you, like myself, delayed getting into the game in order to purchase this starter kit, a word of warning to you. The rulebook included in the starter kit IS NOT the same edition as the glorious hardcover rulebook that has been on shelves for the last few years. The book in the starter kit is a STREAMLINED and MUCH SMALLER rulebook that works great as a lighter, more accessible copy for the GM to track down rule minutia mid-game but it is missing around 200 pages of great content. And some very important info is missing including: how to make your character, character sheets, how to design a campaign as a GM, how to fly space craft, cryo sleep rules and even most shockingly missing is any actual stats or rules for the xenomorph creature itself. They are mentioned for sure but none of their armor ratings, hit points, special attacks are listed. There is a mention of more info being located in the Chariot of the Gods expansion book also included here but once again, there is just a quick overview of how the Xenomorph differs in play from a player or non-player character and nothing more. So after waiting months for my starter kit to arrive in the mail, I went back out to a local game store I knew had the original, full size rulebook and bought it as well and in just moments found all the missing info mentioned above in just moments. So in conclusion... I don't regret buying the starter kit as the tokens, cards, maps, Chariot of the Gods adventure and even the smaller soft cover rulebook are all great to have as additions to this fantastic RPG, but I am a huge fan of the source material universe that is the Alien franchise. If you are also a fan of this seminal sci-fi series, even if you never play this game, YOU WILL WANT THIS FULL SIZE HARDCOVER BOOK. It is crammed from front to back with all sorts of great info, art, maps, etc, and really fleshes out the politics, factions, species, design and locations of this series. As I mentioned, the smaller book is great for quickly tracking down answers for any odd rule double checks or questions that may pop up for a GM in the middle of a campaign but if you want the actual RPG rulebook and ALL the rules, tables, gameplay mechanics, etc, you will need the hardcover to be the best GM or player you can be. Stay frosty.

Free League is amazing!
This is such a high quality set, the map alone would be worth 30 dollars alone, the medium it’s printed on is so high quality, thick and doesn’t mind being folded - the box was in perfect shape and is so sturdy, it makes D&D box sets seem like garbage. The tokens are excellent, the dice are excellent (they try to rob you for 20 bucks for a dice set… the dice alone in this set pay for the 40 dollar price tag) and the rule book and adventure are also printed on similiar high quality of card stock as the map, gorgeous Buy this, buy the original sourcebook, alien is awesome

Missing a player card
I know this seems minor but my game was missing a player card. I know it's not the vendor's fault but it's kind of a bummer considering how excited I was to buy this. ????

Excellent game and really well introduction
This is great - the rules are simplified, yes, but they are all you need in order to run the included module. Plus, the rule book being shorter makes it more easily accessible...at least for me. I love RPGs and find I don't have the time to consume the complete rule book of every one I'm interested in. This is an awesome solution to that. The module is a good one. It has enough to be maybe 2 sessions, but is very comfortable at one session. It introduces some Player versus Player aspects that may not be for every table, but we loved it. All in all, this is very well done.

Compleate steal of a deal!
Fantastic deal. If you are running the game you want to get the hardcover, if you're going to just play the game this set is a steal! You get almost $40 worth of the alien base and stress dice alone. The softcover rules contains everything a player needs. The maps for the module Chariot of the Gods are top notch, thick and sturdy. The larger sized character cards for the module are a very nice touch! Its a very well designed game overall and not very hard to learn compared to other roleplaying games. I think its about a $75 value for under $40!

Great RPG experience, easy to learn
I have only run a cinematic scenario thus far, but the system is simple and easy to learn, the included game elements are of high quality, and the included module is very well-crafted. My only complaint is that all of the necessary tables, etc. are scattered throughout the rulebook, requiring a lot of flipping around/searching- would have been helpful to have them reprinted in the back of the book. But that’s what incentivizes people to buy their DM screen I suppose ; ) Aside from that minor quibble, very happy with the product overall, and looking forward to playing additional modules.

AMAZON SHIPPING CAN REALLY SUCK / AWESOME QUALITY GAME
Amazon slapped a shipping label on this and sent it out. No protection. Needless to say it came all scuffed up, corners all wore off and dirty. So yeah, that happened. Beyond that the quality of the game materials is top notch. I haven't played the game yet but I've looked through everything and the artwork and layout are fantastic. That alone is worth the price of admission. Even the cardboard markers are of high quality. Free League Publishing doesn't cut corners.

A fun and lethal system that creates some great tension
Played through this adventure for the first time and it’s a great game. Free league has great presentation and will get me into more of their systems after this one. It does a great job at representing the horror of the movie while creating fun stories so long as your players are aware that most (if not all) will die
