I started looking for mason jar glasses in order to free up some of my canning jars when I learned, after the fact, that there is a pandemic-inspired shortage of canning jars. After reading some of the horror-story reviews, I still decided to get these. On first impression, I'm glad I did. The horror stories came in four areas. First, broken glasses upon delivery. The ones I received were in perfect condition. They were delivered by Amazon delivery without an additional shipping box. This worked great. I can't say what their condition might have been had they been put into a larger box without adequate padding and dropped several times en route. Second, glasses were smaller than expected and/or handles were too small to accommodate more than one or two fingers. These glasses are exactly the size of a pint canning jar. A pint is not a huge amount. If you don't know how much a pint is, check before buying. Quart mason jar glasses are available if you don't want to have to refill your glass. Several folks said that their hands were small but they still couldn't properly use the handles. My hands are a woman's large. I can easily get three fingers through the handle, with room to spare. My husband's hands are a man's large. He can easily get two fingers through the handle and naturally position a third finger to hold the glass with complete ease and safety. The last two areas appear to relate to confusing these drinking glasses with canning jars. They are NOT canning jars, even if they look like them! They are glasses! They are neither manufactured with the same type of glass nor intended for the same purposes. So, third, glasses broke in the dishwasher. The ads for this kind of glass all say either to hand wash them, or not to put them in the dishwasher. It clearly says on the outside of the box: "Care Instruction Hand Wash Only." If you don't have the time to hand wash and dry an item, don't get one that tells you not to put it in the dishwasher! It probably says that for a reason! Fourth, glasses broke/cracked/leaked after using with hot liquids. Again, the ads all say "cold liquids only," "not for use with hot liquids," or somesuch. It says on the outside of the box: "Warning for room termperature or cool drinks only. Do not fill with hot liquid." In fact, the set of glasses I got have imprinted right in the glass "Ice Cold Drink." If you want a mug for coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, or hot toddies, get one made to withstand the high temperature, not one that specifically says to not fill it with hot liquids! Overall, I rated the glasses at 4 stars because I haven't had the chance to use them. UPDATE: After using these glasses for a while, I've found no problems with them. However, I have found a problem with the lids. These are single piece, regular canning jar, lids. They are silver on the outside, white on the inside. I don't know if the white is paint, acrylic paint, enamel, or something else. However, with use, the white wears off. This allows the underlying metal to rust. This isn't a problem for me, because I have a lot of canning lids I can use as replacements. But if you are relying solely on the lids that come with the glasses, you could have an issue. Because of this, I've left my rating at 4 stars.
