Great carving set

Metal scoop is sharp enough to thin out the pumpkin walls easily and also the handle is short enough to fit inside a Med-Lrg pumpkin. The knife is awesome - very easy cuts. It is larger, so not great for detail work, but that is not it's job anyway. I didn't even really use the plastic scoop - just scrap it all with the metal one and then dump out. Done. Made cleaning 6 pumpkins very easy!

Great for Squash prep

This is a great tool, I bought it for preparing squash. It cuts through acorn, butternut, spaghetti squashes easily.

Got multiple uses out of it.

Not the best for detailed work. If you want to do simple large designs, this set is good. Very sturdy too.

Knife works well, and overall good quality, but I have some issues with one tool...

For whatever reason, every Halloween I'd buy a new set of those super cheapo pumpkin carving tools that cost like $2.99 at the big-box stores. They basically fall apart after a use or two. Repeat. When I saw these available via Vine, I grabbed them - finally, something sturdy that would last! And... they seem to deliver on that front. The tools seem to be well made and sturdy. The spoon functioning as a guard for the knife/saw is smart and reduces the number of pieces to store. Function-wise... I like the knife the best - it made cutting designs really really easy compared to a knife. It also helps you avoid those "skinny in the back" holes that I sometimes cut with a knife (where you cut the front of the design fine, but the knife was angled so when you push out the piece, the hole in the back (inside the pumpkin) is super tiny!) It would have been nice to include a finer knife/saw for detail work, but this does the trick for most "classic" designs. The spoon is also good - it's relatively short handle makes it easy to maneuver inside the pumpkin. I used it more like a scraper, as it's too flat to work that well as a scoop for the goop - it works much better/is quicker to just grab the innards with your hands, like always. The metal scraper is somewhat puzzling... it's too sharp , IMHO, and just digs into the side of the pumpkin, making it difficult to actually scrape with. Plus, you don't really need a sharp scraper - the blunt plastic spoon worked great. But my main gripe is that the TOP of the SIDE edges of the metal scraper (which don't need to be sharp at all...) are also VERY sharp, in a semi-dangerous way. I think it's just a manufacturing issue, as it's made out of cut/stamped metal and the edges are just kind of unintentionally "raw." I actually got a bad cut on my finger from it, because you wouldn't expect THAT part to be super sharp, so watch out. Overall, if you can get this set for a really good price, the knife/spoon combo is a great all-in-one pumpkin tool and might make it worth getting. But I don't like the metal scraper, which makes the overall value not super great, considering.

Nice handles, unique design...

Sturdy plastic, a cut above the usual throw away pumpkin carving kit. This one you’re going to want to wash and re-use. Well made handles, much wider than the average kit, this makes it much more comfortable to grip and use for hands of all ages. I especially like the unique blade cover which doubles as a spoon. Nice.

Sturdy and good for any type of pumpkin carving. It's definitely better than the old set I had, which was smaller and the blades were flimsy at best, ridiculous at worst.

multi-functional

Chef'n Pumpkin Carving Set, Stainless Steel Multi-Use Tools, Orange I was surprised at how durable and how multi-functional this carving set is by Chef’n. Usually, I have used pumpkin carving sets that were much more flimsy and had multiple tools that seemed redundant and/or useless. This set performed very well with only two tools. It was sharp enough to carve with less effort of cheaper and duller sets. And, it was user friendly for both adults and kids. At the time of this review, this set was priced at around $13.00. Although this may seem expensive for just two pumpkin carving tools, this set is meant to be used year after year and from my experience, probably will. Therefore, I think this is a great set for the money.
