Best design of a hand sander I've ever seen
This sander hastwo handles for better control and a locking trigger so that if you can mount it somewhere you can turn it on and keep it running while moving the part your sanding with both hands. I hope it lasts.

Phenomenal sander
Love the sander, the flip up front body allows close to the edge control. The bag is a terrible design. All in all a highly recommended belt sander.

Versatile
Good tool. Very versitile sanding the wood shingles on my house before painting. They were in bad shape. I would have appreciated a little more power for the kind of deep sanding I was doing, but this did the job and made up for it with being right size, weight, and able to get into tight areas. Would buy again. If you're doing a lot of sanding, buy plent of belts. They tend to break or stretch after 20 minutes or 30 minutes of heavy use.

dust collection is useless, belt tracking adjustment weak
from the moment it came out of the box, sanding dust collection does not work, and it is impossible to check or clear any clogs without totally disassembling the sander. also, the belt tracking is yet to be desired., i had to shim the rear mounting screw with a washer at the point of attachment so i had enough adjustment to center the belt while using it... on a good note this sander has power to spare, and holds the belts well even under pressure. my (rigid) sander's belt slips on the driving wheel when they heat up, this sander holds up well and i am using it on hard wood floors. so it is better than just ok but designers need to tinker with to make it more user friendly

Best belt sander I have ever owned. Issues in reviews are unfounded.
So I have owned many belt sanders in my day. In fact, I have 3 others presently when I decided to buy this one. The primary reason for this purchase was this sanders' large front space in front of the handle to be able to get under railings. My project is sanding a deck with existing vinyl railings that none of the other sanders could get under. So this seemed like a perfect solution. I got the sander and put it right to work. I paid attention to the front wheel and adjustment as many reviews here complained that it was badly engineered and the belt kept coming off. I completed about 150 feet of edging, under railings and along the house on this deck and the belt acted exactly as you would expect; if you push in one direction it will move in the opposite direction. In other words, if I am pushing down on the front of the machine and I slide the machine to the left, the belt will want to move to the right. It isn't an engineering issue, its physics. Anyway, great product. Did exactly what I wanted it to do and solved a great problem because of the unique design. Well done B&D.

Tracking was fine.
First, it comes with one Aluminum Oxide, cloth backed, 60 grit belt already installed; in my case, it was also well tracked. If you are sanding wood, this will chew through it and leave a rough finish, so you will want to purchase other belts of higher grit numbers. I had pretty smooth results with 150 grit on cedar and then hit it with 240 for a super fast pass with a hand block (not many belt sander belts above 150 grit). The included belt is probably best for paint or extreme rust removal, it's just too coarse for most wood applications. The major complaint everyone has is belt tracking, but I found the tracking to be pretty good and easily adjusted. However, the tracking changes when actively sanding vs no load on the belt. It's not by much and you can get a sweet spot where it tracks in both cases; I'd also consider this pretty normal and I track a lot of belts (conveyors, printing presses, etc). There is a special card reminding you which way to turn the adjustment knob and it is listed in the manual (screw in and belt tracks in toward knob, screw out and belt tracks out away from knob), couldn't be easier. My only complaint is I had a tight spot where I kept bumping the knob and would have to stop and turn it back or my belt would walk out. I would rather a tracking knob that is then locked in place by a tightening nut thingy. The dust collector bag is held on by tying a string and is a pain in the ass. Whoever ties that in the factory must have tiny hands or one of those surgical robots. There is a sold-separately service part/adapter that allows you to hook a vacuum to it mentioned in the manual, but I used a bike tube and a hose clamp and it works great. I found the fixed speed to be set fairly well and it did not get too hot after an hour of pretty constant use. I did use the included belt for some rough work where some boards really didn't line up and it worked fine, seems like a nice belt. I took away one star because the thing is crazy loud; earplugs are a must.

Worked flawless.... after small learning curve.
So first off. I've never used a belt sander before. In the pics this is a 30+ year old bench built by my grandfather. Just sitting on it and you got seven splinters. I decided to take apart, rebuild, and stain. So for the first run... belt was flying all over the place. Complete fail. However! You have to take time. Read instructions. Turn unit over, set, and adjust the dial. The dial adjustments are actually quite small. A quarter inch turn, turned out perfect. It is very important to get this set FIRST! After figuring this out was flawless. Ran like a champ. Removed dust bag as this volume of dust was ridiculous. Overall best idea ever, super affordable, and worked like a dream. Highly recommended. Just take the time and learn how to adjust the lock the belt. Cheers and good luck!

Not durable
The item arrived and looked fine. Instructions were good. I am a retired surgeon and retired licensed mechanic. I have used many types of tools in my life, including many types of drum, vibrating, and belt sanders. When a user exerts downward pressure on a belt sander, they can easily hear if the motor labours or slows. even the slightest amount. It is easy to get the feel of a machine/tool. This unit without any stress on the motor within the first hour of use developed clutch/drive spindle shear so that under any mild load would stop rotating. This makes the unit useless. I suspect gears or drive shafts of less than optimal hardness, thus easily "jumping" after mild use. Essentially I either got a "lemon", or the metal/plastic they use is of lesser durability than consumers require.

Great little unit!
Sanded a lot of thick old paint from 2x4's and 2x6's and thus able to repurpose a lot of lumber and save a few trees! A little noisy - all good when you wear some earplugs! Have to keep an eye on the alignment when you press harder on the unit when sanding, but that's the same for all belt sanders. Once you get used to this peculiarity, it's all good! Very satisfied!

Stay away.
I'd stay away from this. The belt keeps sliding sideways and wont stay on straight. It has enough power and seems durable enough for the price but if it wont work properly then what's the point?

Very happy with the performance of this sander
I had to sand down a 1000 square foot deck and this sander exceeded my expectations. I thought that I wanted a 4" wide sander but I don't think that a bigger and higher voltage sander would have been better. This was enough for me to handle. The narrow front allowed me to get under the railings. The narrow width allowed me to sand the risers on the stairs. If you are painting a deck, I highly recommend getting a Shur Line 7" Pad. I've always been old school and used a paintbrush, but the pad saved time and you no longer need to be on your knees. After doing the sanding you will appreciate being on your feet. Used a brush on a pole to do the cracks and went back over with pad... Fraction of the time spent and a better final finish as there are no brush marks. Changing the sandpaper was easy, there is a little knob to adjust the alignment from side to side. I will see how long this sander lasts.

Great belt sander for tight spaces
Was sold out everywhere in my area and luckily found it on Amazon for a great price! No surprise why it was sold out, I guess many caught up into the many benefits and great features of this sander. Sanded the entire porch with it and did a great job with no issues. The best feature is that it is one of the most light weight sanders we tried and it's still powerful. The second best thing is the thinner "nosing" part is just the perfect thing for sanding between spindles or any other tight areas - very convenient. Overall, a great piece of equipment! Would highly recommend it to anyone planning a not so small sanding project.
