Great alternative to battery boxes
As part of a refit for a 1978 Sea ray boat, I purchased 2 of these to hold the batteries instead of using battery boxes. The new location I had chosen for the batteries did not allow the extra height needed to drop a battery into a box so these were a good option. There is plastic tabs or flange to secure the tray and it needs to be fastened down near the center so they do not flex with you secure the battery posts. Once installed, they require no tools to be able to install and remove the batteries, while securing the batteries. This is ideal in a marine application as tools are not always available when you have a battery issue. I had two different brand group size 24 batteries and both fit properly. Now the batteries are visible for inspection and secured properly. The only advantage of a battery box is the terminals are not exposed, but that can be resolved by using cables with covers for the positive terminals. Will use on the next boat I am refitting.

Doesn't fit Dakota lithium DL 60ah starting battery
I like the tray but. My batterie is to short to fit and not as long, as a normal group 24 lead acid battery

Hardware not included
You need 8 #10 sheet metal/wood screws and 8 washers to go with them. Other than that, the battery tray easily fit an XS Power D2400 with thermal protection on it. Very satisfied there. Wish it came with the hardware to install.

Chaparral Boats uses these on their Sunesta Deckboats
I bought one of the other brands first since I didn't know better. The other brands straps dissolved in the minor acid that is on most batteries and they became useless! This tray has plastic that holds everything in place great! I can see why the boat manufacturer uses them. The one thing to keep in mind is that on smaller batteries, the cross member part might not seat all the way against the battery. I found that I could secure the smaller batteries by using 2 pieces of 1/2 PVC pipe cut an inch or two long depending on the height you need. You place the battery in, set the cross member over the top and then slide the PVC spacer over each of the two secure bolts. This causes the cross member to be secure on lower smaller batteries before the securing bold bottoms out and it holds the battery in very well!

plastic battery holder
Everything is plastic, and it has held up. I only installed and left it in the boat. I do not know how long it would last if you were changing the battery out. The whole thing is plastic which will not corrode in saltwater. I would buy again if I knew I was going to leave the batteries for a good while.

As advertised
The only problem I had was that the mounting of the tray next to a bulkhead didn't leave enought room to turn the hold down bolt due to its (T) configuration. I just trimed down that portion since its plastic and there was still plenty of leverage to secure the bolt by hand. Looks good, built well and should last a long time.
