Sentinal filter seems fine and costs less.
I just got these two weeks ago as a replacement to the Brita's I had been getting for a couple of years. We live in the Boston metro area (no well water), and there seems to be a fair amount of sediment in the water (old city pipes maybe). My Brita Pitcher filter prior to this never clogged and we used it about 4 times as long as it suggested. The GE and Brita filters "clogged" or became unusable after 3-4 months making drinking water relatively expensive. I don't know what kind of difference there is in the filter so I don't know if they truly get clogged or if they are designed to lock up after so long. I will eventually cut a used one open to find out. There was only a single gasket in the Sentinal box (other reviewers said they had a second in the box). I compared it to the Brita gasket and it was thinner. So I put the Brita gasket in the Sentinal. NO LEAKING. Don't know if the Sentinal gasket would have been fine but I didn't want to take the time to find out. Other differences are that the Sentinal has a flat bottom and the Brita rounded. The Sentinal has a notch in the mounting plate (unlike the Brita). Documentation says it is there to check for leaking. How's it compare? I don't know about taste. It seems the same to me. Without testing water samples from each I have no idea if one is better at filtering then the other. The Sentinal definately runs water faster then the Brita. I will try to upload some pics and hopefully update this as it starts to clog/slow down.

AMERICAN MADE WATER FILTER
I had read all the reviews written about this product (which is a replacement for the GE MWF Refrigerator Filter). The last time that I had purchased the GE Filter, I had gone with the (INT version), which is the international version of the MWF. These had worked just the same as the regular MWF version, but were priced lower. Since I had tried these, I figured I might give this Water Sentinel filter a shot. However, after reading the reviews and finding out how many people had problems, I was somewhat skeptical. Even so, I went ahead and purchased the Water Sentinel filters and even bought 3 of them for the best cost savings. Significantly lower cost than the GE product and I am proud that I am buying a product made here in the US which keeps our workforce working. Now for the installation: Most times I do this by myself and sometimes I do have to get my husband to help. I read the instructions and had remembered all the comments in the reviews about the o-ring, so I was certain that this was in place. It took me and my husband awhile to get the old unit out but I was finally able to accomplish that and I installed the new unit or so I thought. I ran the water from the dispenser and the water started leaking in between the new filter and the fridge adapter that holds the filter. It took me 2 more attempts to seat it properly and then no more water leaks. I see no reason that this product will not be just as good as the GE one.

Bad Batch of WSG-1 Filters? Turns out NO!
I have used the Water Sentinel WSG-1 in my GE refrigerator for years with excellent results. We have well water, high iron, and sediment. Our $10K water treatment system doesn't quite do the job, and we have to filter water for drinking. Up to this last order, the WSG-1's worked perfectly, producing sparkling clear, good tasting water. With our sediment load, we have to replace the filter every 2 months, instead of the recommended 6 months, so having a lower cost alternative like the WSG-1 was good. However, the most recent filters did not adequately filter, or not filter at all. Tried 3 of them from the order of 6, all produced colored water, and it appeared that the water was either by-passing the filter, or just not being filtered...(defective filtration material)? The water also came through the filters faster and in larger quantity than past WSG-1's, faster than it should being forced through filter material. Anyone else experienced this problem with WSG-1's?. The only alternative seems to be the GE MWF at twice the price. EDIT: 9-17-2013...turns out that it was the refrigerator at fault. The very large threads that these filters screw onto had worn to the point that the lever that redirects the water flow through the filter was not being depressed. So, I will revise my rating to the previous 4 stars i have given this product.

FANTASTIC! RECOMMEND HIGHLY!
I finally decided to stop paying ridiculous prices to have GE water filters for my refrigerator. I read many of the reviews, and all I can say is.....disregard the negatives and order these WSG-1 filters if you want to save lots of money. I read that these filters do not fit well and that almost kept me from ordering. But, I thought the savings over the GE filters are just too great for me not to try them one time. I bought the three-pack to save even more per filter, and I'm glad I did. I have to admit, that when I installed the first filter several weeks ago it shot out of my hands, spraying water all over. I thought my worst fears had been realized, but on my second attempt it went in perfectly and has shown no sign of leakage thus far. It seems to need just a little more force when inserting. The water clarity and taste is as good or better than when I used a GE filter. The water actually seems to come out of the dispenser a bit faster. My water company (Beaufort County, SC) told me that I don't even need to filter my water, so the fact that the GE filter has a higher "filtering" rating is of no concern. I will never again buy a GE filter, and I'll think about the money I'm saving every time I install one of these Water Sentinel filters.

Good product -- Great price --
This product is compatible to my GE water filter, and the price diffence is huge. For the price of one GE filter, I basically bought 3 Sentinel filters.
