I decided I wanted to sell some items on eBay and did not have an accurate but inexpensive scale to determine shipping costs. Searches on eBay, Google and here on Amazon led me to this scale. It is hard to find an accurate scale with weight ranges: from as small as a letter or size 4 (9.5" x 14.5") mailer, all the way up to a package weighing 110 pounds. This scale does it all! I purchased this scale through Amazon Seller EZ SELL and they shipped it free via Amazon Prime, which is great if you have that Amazon option. The manufacturer, American Weigh Scales (AWS) has great customer service and answered several pre-purchase questions I had very promptly. When I received the scale, I was impressed with how much the box weighed. As this scale is made in China (but sold and shipped here in the USA and not shipped from China), I was a little bit leery of the build, I thought it would be all plastic. The platform base must be partly made of metal because it is too heavy for plastic - this is a good thing. You can set it to several different screens, depending on your needs. There is a lb/oz view ranging down to 0.1, 1/10th of an ounce. There is an lb view with the range down to 0.01, 1/100th of a pound. There is a Kg view ranging down to 0.001, 1/1000th of a Kg. And finally, there is a g view ranging down to 1 gram. American Weigh Scales claims a resolution of 0.1oz for this model, which I think is pretty good. Just don't try to weigh anything you think might be more than 110 pounds or 50Kg. It has a back-lit display, which goes to sleep when you are not using it and will show the time (in 24 hour mode) while asleep. The display is separate from the base, which was a must-have for me, and it is on a coiled cord which can be mounted on the wall or anywhere you want within its 5 foot extended length. I decided to give it a test with 4 "D" cell batteries I have. Three of the batteries weighed 3.4oz and one battery weighed 3.3oz, which at least for items in the small range is within AWS' 0.1oz resolution claim - PASSED, with flying colors! A small caveat though, the connection between the coiled cord and the socket on the display is a little wonky, so when the display would not register (just showed 0.0), I had to jiggle the plug and it worked again. This scale has already saved me about 50% of its purchase price and will pay for itself the next time I do some selling on eBay or when mailing my holiday gift packages. This is the perfect time to buy - before it goes OOS during the holiday season. (And, NO, I am not affiliated in any way with either Amazon, the seller EZ SELL, or the manufacturer, American Weigh Scales.) When I purchased this scale in mid-September, it was almost $10 more than it is as of this review (10/10/12) and I considered it a Very Good Deal. At today's price, and with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime, this is a deal not-to-be-missed! P.S. I just received another one of these today, 12/14/12, for my son to use. This one is just as accurate as my first one and I don't have to jiggle the cord so they must have looked at this issue. I received it in 2 days (Amazon Prime) via EZ SELL again - this seller is great! I cannot recommend this scale high enough. You will not find a better scale at this price point.
