Get the right size, it makes all the difference.
I read some negative reviews that folks are not liking the fit, but I must say this brace truly fits perfectly wif you have the right size. Do yourself a favor and measure before you buy. I have x-large hands but the measurements told me i needed a Medium sized brace and it fit perfectly. No discomfort while wearing and it truly does immobilize your thumb and wrist. I needed it specifically to treat inflammation in my thumb and wrist and it helped after using for 1 week with the advice drop my Dr. And OT specialist.

Runs big
I have been reading reviews for all kinds of thumb/wrist brace. Settled on this one. My wrist is a 6.5 so following the size chart I ordered a small. Downfalls for me: the 1st and 2nd velcro plus the thumb are great but the third velcro was almost to small. They don’t give you near enough on that one. No matter how I tried to adjust the brace it just felt really uncomfortable. Maybe not enough padding on the inside? The material that is under the straps stops at the second Velcro. Now why would it not continue all the way to the third one? I needed the extra small for my wrist but it would never have work for my forearm. This might work great for people that don’t have bigger forearms but they do run a little big.

Almost great
I tried a different wrist splint and a hot/cold wrap before I found this splint. If you developed Jose DeQuervo Tennis Center Ivy like I did, you may have noticed most all of them have a design flaw---they put pressure on the sore spot, the area of the wrist directly below and in line with the thumb. That's where the sore tendons and collar are. So you can wake up with more soreness than you went to bed with. This one I like better because I was able to modify it to bridge over that part of the wrist while keeping my thumb and hand stabilized to cut down on lateral pivoting movement. I made a cut in the sleeve that holds the plastic thumb splint (not one of the two aluminum ones), removed the splint, and replaced it with one I made by beating flat a length of 1/4-inch copper tubing. I filed the ends smooth and rounded them slightly. I annealed it (made it bendable) by heating it with a propane torch and letting it cool. I was then able to shape that splint to bridge over my sore wrist. I also shaped the two aluminum splints to suit. I leave the middle strap very loose, so it doesn't tighten down on the wrist area. I just tighten the upper and lower straps and the thumb strap. When I say tighten, I don't mean tight tight. I mean just enough to be secure and stabilize things. So anyway this wasn't ideal out of the box, but it was better than others I looked at because I was able to modify it to make it work better for me.

The First Rule Of Any Joint Injury -- STABILIZE IT!
Yeah I'm kind of old. I will be forced to take Social Security next year. But that hasn't kept me from working in the yard 4-6 hours each day in Southwest Florida's summer heat and humidity. Most of my joints have been repaired or tuned up (athletic injuries) and periodically I get up in the morning with pain in one (or more) of those joints. Last week I woke up with severe left thumb pain combined with soreness of the wrist. I had dislocated that thumb playing basketball in graduate school 45 years ago. Ignoring that prior injury I thought that maybe my diet had given me another episode of gout, something that usually occurs in that thumb. However the steps that I take to treat gout didn't work this time. So I ordered and began wearing this SammonsPreston Thumb Spica Wrist Brace. Stabilizing both my left thumb and wrist was both easy and comfortable, immediately taking out the random motions that were causing me pain. After a week of wearing the brace my symptoms disappeared and I was able to continue my daily activities --although very carefully. Since my wife has been fighting tendonitis in her right wrist, I also ordered her this same brace in her correct size. She can't seem to thank me enough for helping moderate her pain. Now if I could only get her to wear it while at work she would find herself recovering much faster. This is a great product offered at a reasonable price -- especially when you consider that it only cost you around $30.00 to avoid a trip to the doctor and the expense of any follow-up diagnosis and treatment. Obviously this won't solve all thumb and wrist problems, but if you want to give the affected area some stabilization and rest, this will do it for you.

Does the Job, But Sticks to Everything!
Overall, I really like this brace. I had a softer brace previously to try to treat a grade 2 sprain, but it wasn't sturdy enough to keep me from accidentally moving my wrist. This brace has much more support. I like the 3 adjustable straps (don't forget to trim the excess or the loose flaps will bug you!) and the thumb strap has actually been more help than I feared. It is hard to sleep in. The inside material is comfortable and does not irritate my skin, but the outside of the brace is mostly the straps and velcro strips, which also stick to everything! I am always getting stuck to towels, blankets, and pieces of clothing. Even my couch at one point... I might make a quick sleeve to go over the top of it in order to keep it from catching on everything, but I feel like I shouldn't *have* to. Like I said, this is a good quality product and well made. I can definitely tell a difference in my recovery after using it for about a week!
