Flimsy - Poor Design and Worse Manufacturing
For how simple a product hooks on a board is, this was surprisingly poorly executed. Hooks included 2 bosses on the back that locate into holes in MDF board. For some reason the manufacturer only tapped threads (M4 x 0.7) into the lower boss (if you are only going to design with one fastener per hook, it should at least be the upper one). M4 threads were not tapped deep enough, so the screws were bottomed out with the hooks still loose. That was fixed by removing all hooks and running a bottoming tap into those holes. The upper boss is slightly bigger diameter, and the hole in its center is already at the tap drill diameter for M5x0.8 thread. Since I was already doing the work to fix the M4 threads, these upper holes were tapped and some short M5 flat heads were added. This required a very slight counter-sink in the MDF to get the heads to sit flush (big hole in MDF already, so only the outer edges of the M5 screw heads engage with the MDF). Photos show the unused upper hole that can be tapped for M5 screws. Counter-bores for the screws that mount the board to the wall seem too deep. I will not be surprised if the screw heads eventually tear out the back side of the MDF with use.
