One of the best pre-shave on the market

Pre-shaves are lubricants to let the blade glide over the face, think of oil lubing the piston rings in your car engine. Next, properly applied lather makes the hair stand up, think of mowing the lawn with the grass blades standing up vs laying flat on the ground. For pre-shave creams I've settle on two brands, Proraso and Cremo. Both are excellent used as a pre-shave cream. Also, I will use as a prep whenever I have to us a cartridge razor for business trips etc. because they are disposable and I don't have to worry about leaving my good DE razors in the hotel. BTW - I occasionally will use this cream as an aftershave, it moisturizes the skin so it works well both as a pre-shave and an aftershave balm; at least Proraso works for me, it has the same ingredients as a good balm - don't use too much! All you need is the amount of a thin dime.

Cool Menthol and Eucalyptus Pre-shave

The Proraso green pre-shave is perfect to use just before applying the Green Menthol and Eucalyptus shave cream. It does get really cold, so if you are sensitive to products that might cause a burning sensation, then you might want to go with the Red or White Prorsao products. I've now used all three and all three are great. I almost always use a straight razor these days too, about 4 + times per week, and it is important to use products that not only nourish and moisturize, but allow for an open blade to glide safely across my skin. Proraso pre-shave and shave lathers/creams do all of that and more.

Magic stuff

I never knew this stuff existed. Order some. You will be amazed and sold like I was. Makes all the difference in the world when getting into wet shaving or not. Where has this been hiding all my life.

I enjoy it, not sure if it's necessary

I'm new to DE shaving so I read reviews and advice from others that suggested Proraso. Pros Invigorating Relatively inexpensive Works well with Cremo brand shave cream Cons Those with sensitive eyes may tear up if it gets too close to the eye area (strong menthol) CAVEAT: I haven't tried shaving without the Proraso, but when I finish this jar, I'll have a few shaves without it, and update my review.

Feels nice

I like this, though it reminds me of noxema. The smell and texture is just like it. Smell is pretty good, fresh, clean, eucalyptus and menthol. It’s smooth and instantly cools on the skin. I can’t tell if it really moisturizes the skin and softens the hair but I use it anyhow. It does add a little extra layer of slickness for your first pass. Over all I think I just enjoy the nostalgic feeling of using it and adding it to my shave ritual.

I've been using Proraso pre-shave cream and the shaving cream for 3 or 4 years now. It's the best I've ever used and I've been shaving for 50 years. My favorite is the menthol & eucalyptus oil.

Pre shave cream ... the clue is in the name

I have been using this product for about six months and it has helped a lot with my shaving burn. For those reviews that say it doesn't lather up well, it's not a shaving cream as is clearly obvious from the product description and it's even in the product title (I can scarcely believe I have to explain this.) This product is designed to replace a pre shave oil and is applied prior to the application of a shaving cream. The product does contain a lot of menthol and you will feel it tingling on your skin when applied. I use a DE razor and tended to get red bumps particularly under my neck when using a shaving oil. That has all but disappeared since using this product. It's also not sticky either so the hair doesn't stick to the sink as with an oil. I'm overall very impressed and would definitely buy again. The larger 300ml tub is definitely better value.

Well worth it!

Invigorating is putting it mildly! If you weren’t awake before you will be after wetting your beard and rubbing this in. Take your time and really massage it in. Then apply your shaving cream of choice. I found it works well with good old Taylor’s of Old Bond Street Sandalwood without overwhelming TOBS familiar well-loved scent. Used in conjunction with a badger hair brush and suitably hot but not boiling water, the result was firm supportive lather that makes the beard stand to attention. A freshly stropped Dovo straight makes short work of multiple passes: with the grain, rinse, lather; against the grain, rinse, lather, across the grain, cold water rinse. Brilliant smooth shave. Noticeably better than with TOBS alone. No residue on face or razor. And that Proraso tingle stays with you! Very well recommended. Very good service and delivery from the seller. Excellent!

Good product that stands up against products many times its price.

Proraso is renown for providing great quality shaving products at economical prices. This product is no different. The scent is strong and will stay with you for at least a couple of hours post-shave. The sensation is powerful and almost makes your eyes water when applying to the face. There is a definitely fresh feeling typical of menthol products. Protection-wise, I do seem to end up with less nicks and scrapes than when not using a pre-shave, or using an oil-based product. It seems to help the blade glide over the skin and works well with a nice shaving cream; I've tried with Proraso creams as well as Taylors of Old Bond Street and it seems to pair comfortably with them all. Because Proraso makes a whole range of products, you can pair this with a cream and an aftershave lotion/balm of the same scent to keep your shave consistent. Great product at a great price. Don't think twice, Proraso is one of the best out there.

Creates the perfect slick layer for shaving

This is good stuff! Smell is fantastic, very fresh feel. You can really tell the difference when you do not use it, it creates a great layer to protect your skin. My routine is below as a good shave isn't down to just one product. -Hot towel 20-30 seconds. -Massage this into whiskers. -Apply your go-to shave cream (mines Arko or Palmolive shave sticks). -Use you go-to razor and blade (a 63' slim Gillette DE razor for me with an Astro blade). -Apply the pre shave before each pass and lather up again. -Cold water. -Alum block if needed. -Prorasso after shave balm.

Instant Results

I have extremely sensitive skin around my neck and chin, and I get razor burn very easily. When this arrived, I'd already damaged my skin after shaving, so I applied this balm and it easied the burning immediately. Very effective. I applied it twice a day for two days until it was time for my next shave, and then I applied it several times during shaving. I didn't get any irritation or burning, so naturally, I'm very happy with this product.
