It helped me prepare

It helped me prepare but... 1. As far as the teaching and assessment methods, I felt that i needed to add extra info to what the book says about each method says. I think that those paragraphs may be a bit too synthesized, if read by someone with no educational background. i felt that I was reading something to an estent referring to backgound knowledge that I did not have. But I am still thankful for it, because I then googled extra info on each of the methods and it was then easier to memorize them, with a bit more reference and context. 2. The pages of maps are ALL misprinted, maybe even NOT printed! Which is really odd... So to study maps, google countries and capitals quizzes. Those helped me learn the geography really fast, not the book. 3. I noticed one particular mistake in the section about stressed syllables and accent rules that break the natural syllabic stresses. I knew those rules already, so it did not hurt me, but if you know little about accent rules, learn them from a different source, as not to learn something wrong. I am still very glad that I got this book mostly because of the teaching methods and assessment methods. I knew nothing about the different foreign language teaching methods and this was at least a pointer to what I needed to know. Yes it teaches you a whole lot more than you need to know, but I cannot really blame the book for it. No manual is going to zero in perfectly on a test thant changes every 2 months. It was also a very good way to immerse myself in Spanish material that I know that I will have to teach, not just learn and be tested on. It will be a good little reference book to have in my desk drawer. Overall, it was worth the money to me, given that the exam is long and difficult and there was a dire need for me to prepare in some way. I would buy it again. (Sorry about the typos but I'm not in the mood to argue with autocorrect today...)

missing maps

good resource - i think, I haven't tested yet, but of the 3 maps included one was completely blank and the other was half a picture - like it only downloaded half the image. weird. this book has good information on grammar and culture for sure, and being out of the classroom for 4 years it has refreshed my memory a lot. the info on theories is great too, I am hopeful it will be a good help to helping me pass my test this weekend!

A poor guide, but the only one I know of

Don't expect too much from this guide for the Texes LOTE 613 exam. It is riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and awkward wording. It almost seems like a non-native English speaker wrote this guide. Many of the teaching theories are insufficiently covered, and the history section is more a string of dates than valuable information. (Independence from Spain, a coup here, a junta there. Info you could easily find on Wikipedia) The online pre-assessment test is a joke. Only 30 questions. I haven't gotten to the grammar section or the full length practice test yet, but my guess is I'll be better off going back to my cliffs notes Spanish review book. At least I didn't pay full price ($65) at xamonline.com

Full of mistakes, save your money!

I am shocked that a company is charging this much money for a book full of typos and errors. The number of gramatical mistakes in the book is astounding. The number of typos and mistakes of the authors makes me think the company threw this book together after simply Googling the test, without ever having proofread a final copy. The vast majority of information in this book is all readily available online for free. The only thing this book has that is worth a penny is the practice test, though those are available online for much cheaper than the selling price of the book.

Very little was useful

While I cannot comment much on the content of the actual exam, this book was not useful. The pedagogy and culture section was the only thing that seemed beneficial to me. It's strongly recommended to read a couple of books on pedagogy theory of teaching a foreign language from the list that can found at the end of the official TExES LOTE preparation manual on the ETS Website.

Save Your Money and Avoid This One

When I saw that this manual was slated for publication after I'd registered for the LOTE test, I was quite jazzed because the only one that existed was the free online test prep manual. In the end, I felt that this manual did very little to prepare me for the actual LOTE test. It is completely riddled with errors, and not even the pages with the maps of Central America or Spain were printed completely. The CA map was completely blank in my book! The sample test asked questions over the same basic material, which was hardly anything like what the LOTE test actually asks. My advice if you want to throughly prepare yourself for this test is to A) avoid this book; B) get a Spanish AP test study guide to prepare yourself for the listening, speaking, and reading samples that appear on the test; C) if you need Spanish grammar review, consider Spanish Grammar by Conrad Schmitt or Test Yourself by Julio Lopez/Arias, Gladys Varona-Lacey; and D)if you haven't spent time in a Spanish class, then try to observe one for a few days to see how the theory is applied.

This book does not help at all to pass the ...

This book does not help at all to pass the Spanish LOTE certification exam at all, do not buy it. You are wasting your money. For the instruction and assessment, it only has 12 pages which does not cover the first 3 domains or the competencies regarding the pedagogy part of the exam. It is the same book as the other edition "LOTE Spanish 613" from the same publisher, but with a different front cover. If you are looking for a book that covers the domains of the pedagogy of the LOTE 613, this is not the book.
