Norpro Stainless 4-3/4 inch Funnel - Well made, well priced, attractive and functional funnel.

This is a nicely constructed and attractive stainless funnel. I particularly like the "seamed" heart shaped stem, as for my use it comes in VERY handy. Plus, the handle is a nice touch as opposed to those small tabs you find on plastic funnels. I use this to fill my Olympia Cremina lever espresso machine. I can't use a plastic funnel, as sometimes when I fill the machine, the boiler I drop the funnel stem into is very hot, and it can melt the plastic. The problem I was having with most stainless funnels is that the stem is not seamed like this one, and the water would bubble / splash due to no air being released when pouring the water in. This funnel lets the air escape without having to hold the funnel and the water bottle at the same time, while trying to keep the funnel from seating to let air out. This funnel with the seamed stem is VERY easy to use. I would recommend this to anyone - considering that this is only $5 more than many of the plastic funnels that are cheaply made - it makes this funnel a bargain. A well made funnel. Exactly what I was looking for

As a dedicated "foodie" I have many funnels; large ones, small ones, tiny ones, mostly in metal with a few plastic funnels. So why on earth would I would buy this one? The strainer is what makes it special. I thought that I would use it for straining my deep fryer oil and it did work great for that! I use it with the metal strainer for the first pass and I then put a coffee filter in it for a second pass when filtering older oil. But it's uses are not limited to frying oil. I have found this funnel to be very useful in making sauces. I often leave large pieces of aromatics (onion, garlic, shallots, herbs, etc.) in the sauce while I am reducing it. I usually use a large metal strainer to extract the big chunks of material. However it can sometimes be a little messy if I am using a small saucepan. This funnel takes the place of the larger strainer and directs the flow of the sauce more precisely. The straining device has long prongs that are inserted into the funnel's spout, holding it securely. The stainless steel construction promises years of heavy use. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Great for big chunk straining

I bought this funnel hoping the mesh holes were fine enough to sift out the fine particulate from oils. Unfortunately they aren't that fine. Larger bits will get caught, but really fine stuff should probably go through a coffee filter though. That said, I really like this funnel compared to my plastic ones. When cleaning, the strainer pops out for easy cleaning; and because it's shiny steel, you can see if you missed any grease or oil. The lip on the sides makes it easy to clamp down a filter if I need to do really fine straining. Overall I'm glad I bought this funnel.

Great for daily use with hot liquids.

I use this daily, for pouring hot tea into a jug with a small opening, when making iced tea. Unlike a plastic funnel, this won't crack or melt. The handle stays cool enough to prevent me from getting burned from the hot metal, as I am pouring. The stem is easy to thoroughly clean, and a toothbrush fits in there nicely, without getting stuck. I don't really have a use for the strainer, so I took it out. I am very happy with my purchase and wish I had bought one much sooner than I did.

Excellent Funnel!

I use this for filtering homemade wine. The removable strainer is great. I normally place a clean cloth in the funnel as well since the strainer in the funnel would not be able to filter yeast and very small sediment. This is a great funnel overall. Easy to clean, a wide mouth to pour into, and the diameter of the neck is plenty wide enough to keep liquid flowing and not having backups or slow draining. Works great for my needs! I highly recommend this product!

GREAT FUNNEL

this funnel with strainer works great. I use it to strain cooking oil from my deep fat fryer after every use. the strainer sits in the funnel nice and tight and does not move around when scraping it with a spatula when it becomes clogged up. I noticed that the spout was crimped I thought it was damaged, but after looking at it more closely I could tell it was put there for a reason for what reason I don't know and don't care. all I know this funnel/strainer works great for what I use it for. I will be buying a few more.

A MUST HAVE!

The measurements are exact and I like the opening on top which ensures nothing will be spilt. The opening on the bottom is perfect because the heart shaped dent doesn't allow air bubbles to form as you pour. This is great for wide mouth jars or bottles with a narrow neck. Once placed into the jar or bottle it will shift a little so hold it as you pour. The strainer works well, keeping out the larger particles in your liquid. A MUST HAVE!

Squished Spout

I assumed that the funnel I received was a factory second when it arrived: the spout appeared to have been accidentally crimped lengthwise so that it's diameter was far narrower than expected. Did someone decide to give it a hard squeeze with a pliers out of spite? Not until I got home and relooked at the photo on the advertisement did I notice that apparently that's the way it is supposed to be. Either that or one pliers happy nutcase has been allowed to roam free at the factory giving each funnel a hard pinch before they leave. If there is a good reason for squishing funnel spouts but it is beyond my grasp to guess what it is.....
