Good purchase
It seems a bit flimsy so I’ll see how well it holds up.

In moderate rain, it doesn't really work
I have a porch that, when it rains, gets drenched from the sides (it has a roof), so I decided to install gutters and this slender rain chain, not really wanting it to be big and obvious. But with the first rain the chain got quickly overwhelmed by the stream of water and it just splashed all over, defeating the purpose. Probably fine for minor rain flow, but for diverting any real rain away from a structure--not sure this fits the bill.

Nicer look than a downspout, carefully plan installation!
The media could not be loaded. The photos tell the story. Needed a way to handle the rain water that was collecting in the short section of gutter that runs perpendicular to the house, as water was spilling over the end cap. There is not enough room on the fascia to properly slope the gutter to drain all the way to the left side of the house. A downspout wouldn’t look great at the location where I installed the chain, so I decided to give this a try. The chain is well-made and attractive. I installed the chain differently than the instructions suggested and it works pretty well. You can see in the photo that I made the smallest hole possible using a hole saw to sneak the small end link up through gutter and simply slid a bolt through that link to secure it inside the gutter. The oval shaped adapter is far too large for my gutter, and my gutters are larger than the standard home center width. If you’re going to use (pay for) an adapter, be sure to check measurements prior to purchase. I chose a screw-in dog tie out stake to secure the chain inside the pot ($5 at the blue home center) and the resin whisky barrel ($12) from the same place to provide a place to catch and direct the rain water. I drilled two holes in the barrel...a small one in the center to allow for the stake and another for drainage on the side where I wanted the water to exit. The barrel sits on several inches of stone. I filled it half with stone and about 3” of rubber mulch on top of that. I then made a stone-filled trench that directs the water away from the house. I was most concerned about the drainage and I must say that it is working exactly as intended. In low wind conditions, the chain performs exactly as you see in the video. When windier, more of the water is “scattered” from the chain, but it disperses enough that it doesn’t puddle and still follows my trench. In summary, the chain is great for a specific application like mine, but don’t expect it to replace a downspout on a full section of gutter and to do as good of a job. I think it would perform even better if a proper adapter would have allowed to direct the water further down the chain. No fifth star because the adapter package deal was a bit misleading and useless for me.

Creates a nice, almost laminar flow down the chain in a torrential rain.
We dropped this from a prominent downspout into a beautiful ceramic pot filled with stones that was buried into a drain field. The water cascades down the chain with little splash and disappears into the container. Having drilled numerous holes in the bottom of the pot it has never over flowed and the drain field charges the area filled with tree ferns and ginger. The chain copper, so it weathers well, is nice looking, unassuming, uncomplicated and does it's job without shouting for attention !

This rain chain held up even with ice
I used a gutter adapter to hang this beautiful rain chain. With heavy rain, which we get in Oregon, some of the water escapes through the adapter hole missing the chain, splashing against the house. Otherwise, it has helped so much as an additional downspout where I have my deck roof joining my house gutter. And it looks much better than an ugly downspout and costs less since I could do it myself.

Spreds more than collects
Have 8 feet hanging from a gutter outlet. Water follows the chain only about half way before becoming droplets that "jump" away from the chain. A two foot diameter circle ends up surrounding the base of the chain. Am considering either shortening the chain to end in some kind of collector or replacing the chain to more of a cup design. Chain quality itself is good.

Monarch Aluminum Teardrop Rain Chain with Aluminum Gutter Reducer
It has only been up for two weeks so we'll see how it does over the course of the winter and wet spring. I like the simple design and it feels pretty sturdy in my hand. I will update this review in the spring to share how it held up through the PNW winter. I took off one star because the top of the gutter reducer does not sit flat on the inside of the 5" gutter. It's too wide. I had to bend up the sides to make it work. Not the end of the world because the aluminum is pretty easy to bend, but more work than I expected.

Beautiful and sturdy
In the photo are two rain chains replacing ugly down spouts during front yard upgrade. We secured the base to 90 degree pvc piping connected to perforated pvc in a trench below grade. We had two storms recently, both nearly 6 inches of rain within a day and these chains handled the amount of water perfectly. No more clogged downspouts that split!

Easier than unclogging a storm sewer
When my house was built, both front and back eaves-troughs were piped to a storm sewer inlet pipe next to the house. The one from the back actually went into and through the house! I changed that with a new downspout at the back. Over time, the storm sewer pipe clogged up. Now the front eaves-trough lets rain come down the rain chain and water a big tree. It also looks nicer than the pipe.

I bought a used one - it's in great shape
Very pleased with my purchase - it looks great. The price was very good and it looks fabulous on my house and does the job of elegantly capturing the rain.

We dug a hole and filled with gravel. You need to do this for drainage.
I like the chain. It is my first installation. We need a bigger area of rocks around the base because when the wind blows it lands outside the area.
