Too small

These sunglasses are very beautiful and well made. They are very light weight; the frames seem rather fragile but should hold up well with care. However, they are just too small to be sunglasses I thought they were child size. I don’t even have a large face yet the sunglasses can barely cover my entire eye areas. I’ve included some size by size comparison with my Prada prescription glasses and my other Maui Jim pairs I got a few years ago. The new Maui Jim pairs are hardly any bigger than my prescription glasses, in fact, my prescription glasses are actually wider. When I compare this to my old Maui Jim pairs, the old pairs are about 1.5x wider than this one. I think they would have been great as prescription glasses but for sunglasses, I'd expect them to be bigger to effectively cover the whole eye area. It's such a shame because these sunglasses are so beautiful but I can't use them.

Lightweight, classic styling, and fit me perfectly!

These Island Eyes Sunglasses serve as my introduction to the Maui Jim brand. I'm impressed! My first impression of these sunglasses was informed by their packaging. The sunglasses come in a branded cardboard box and include a black case that unfolds. These are nicely presented but for the price, I'd prefer a more protective zippered case. I'm a very outdoorsy person with light eyes who lives in the high desert - sunglasses with lots of protection are a must for me. Polarization is also a must for me to reduce glare - very happy that these have that feature. I chose the "Gold/Hcl Bronze Polarized" color and I love the look. The tortoise paired with the gold makes for a very classic style. Not one for overt branding, I'm happy that these have very subtle gold "Maui Jim" lettering on the top of the right lens. In terms of fit, I'm a woman with a small head and high cheekbones. I often find eyewear difficult to fit. These are described as having a lens width of 50mm which is quite diminutive and suits my face well. These sunglasses are very lightweight and comfortable to wear. I'm really happy with These Island Eyes Sunglasses from Maui Jim and highly recommend them!

Poor Quality

These Maui Jim Island Eyes sunglasses are a pretty big disappointment for the price point. My husband has owned MJ shades before and raved about them, but this is my first experience with the brand. I was shocked to find that these $400 sunglasses were shipped inside a plastic bag that was tossed into a flimsy box. Absolutely no protection during shipping. Other quality shades I’ve purchased have shipped inside the protective case (that’s what it’s there for anyway, right? For transporting your sunglasses??). The MJ packaging insert even recommends that sunglasses are stored in their protective case during transport. This pair did come with a case, but it’s folded up and secured inside the outer box- almost more secure and carefully packed than the sunglasses themselves. I pulled them out of the box and removed the plastic bag and was incredibly disappointed to feel how flimsy the frame was. The arms were already trying to bend while I was simply trying to put them on. The arms are so, so thin and feel like they have no integrity. When I put them on I noticed the defect on the lens. My brand new $400 pair of shades already had a defect on the lens. Unsure if it occurred at the factory or if it occurred during shipping since they aren’t protected, but it shouldn’t have happened at all. The shape of the glasses is fun and unique, but they are much smaller on my face than I anticipated. I feel like a member of The Beetles when I wear them and I like to think I have a fairly average sized face. I’m sure the lens technology itself is something exciting, but I can’t even wear them longterm to test that out because the defect on the lens is right in my line of sight. I can’t speak for Maui Jim as a whole, but I absolutely cannot recommend this specific pair of sunglasses at this price point.

Maui Jim sunglasses are the BEST

I have extremely sensitive eyes, and I get atypical migraines. My ophthalmologist has recommended that I wear sunglasses whenever I am outside, and I SHOULD be wearing polarized sunglasses. When I told him that I was wearing these Maui Jim Island Eyes W/Patented Polarizedplus2 Lenses Round Sunglasses, his response was pleased, since other patients have had favorable experiences with them. Note that I am NOT recommending these for anyone's medical conditions; I am merely stating that the polarization on these Maui Jim sunglasses is GREAT. They really assist my eyes in blocking the light from the sun, but allowing me to see very clearly when it's sunny outside. I had already been familiar with the brand, having owned another pair of this brand. I love the sharp vision, the reduction in glare, and the fact that when I wear them, my eyes don't feel strained in stark sunlight. I like this pair because it's a tiny bit of a twist on a classic aviator look. It doesn't look fusty; it just looks a bit updated. I can't recommend these enough. I will buy this brand forever. I won't go outside without them--summer OR winter. Highly recommended.
