Very heavy, for better or for worse...
I cannot fault this Lodge double dutch oven product but I had to return it because it is just too daggone heavy for this old woman to handle. Was going to use it for sourdough bread baking, as is all the rage now, but it just wasn't a practical choice for me. Note that this double dutch oven set really is preseasoned as described. I was skeptical because the texture of the Lodge cast iron finish is not really nice and smooth as the ancient ones used to be, the ones my mother had. But I was quite pleased at the way a fried egg slid off the surface of the shallow pan on first use. I did fry in a little olive oil and reduced the heat some to pre-release the egg before I did the slide-off movement. And that practice worked beautifully. Back to my intended purpose of high-heat pseudo-artisan bread baking: I figured before handling that dutch oven preheated to 500 degrees f. I'd better do a 'dry run' through all the physical steps of where I'd place the hot items to insert the dough, where I'd have my feet positioned with the oven door open blasting out the heat, etc. - test run at room temperature first. I wasn't sure about the round handles instead of long skillet handles for moving it around while extremely hot. So anyhow, I don't know how I actually picked up the deep part of the dutch oven but somehow I managed to grab both top & bottom parts at the same time and the deeper heavier pot promptly fell onto the top of my foot! OWWW-WOWWWWWW! I sure was glad it wasn't at 500 degrees, I'll tell ya that! Probably would've melted a hole in my vinyl kitchen floor where it landed, too! I am now using my old tried and true anodized Commercial aluminum 10" frying pan & 4" deep/10" diameter pot (raw anodized surfaces, NOT non-stick surfaces!) in the same way that everybody else is using this Lodge double dutch oven for their bread baking, with the shallow frying pan as baking pan on bottom, and 4" deep pot enclosing the loaf on top. Same configuration as the double dutch oven but much much lighter weight and easier for me to handle. The trade-off is that my anodized aluminum MUST NOT be pushed to 500 degrees as Lodge cast iron can be. I found that out the hard way, too: I thought the shiny silver handles on my Commercial aluminum pots were stainless steel. Uh-uh, NO. They are apparently non-anodized thus shiny aluminum. Beyond 425 degrees aluminum can distort! That's what mine did. Now my shiny silver handles, formerly smooth, are permanently imprinted with the texture of the heavy-duty terry-cloth potholders that I was using to remove the very hot preheated deep pot from the hot oven! So every time I use my anodized Commercial aluminum big pot I will be reminded by the now terry-cloth textured shiny aluminum handles to never heat it beyond 425 degrees again! Moral of the story: 425 degrees will be just fine this old girl's bread baking from now on! Aluminum is much lighter and easier for me to handle at my age and state of physical strength. I was very pleased at the ease of return and prompt refund issued for the perfectly good Lodge double dutch oven, too.

Not sure why I waited, oh yeah, the price
I bought the 2 quart version last month. I really like it for it's size and versatility if you're making a meal that you serve. I found that the 2 quart was a bit deep to eat directly out of so I looked at the 1 quart. I put it in my wish list since I couldn't convince myself that the 1 quart was more expensive than the 2 quart. Well last week the price of the 1 quart went down to more than $15 lower so I immediately place an order. I have purchased many Lodge pans from Amazon as well as Lodge itself. Except for the 12 inch Wok arriving in a generic Lodge box (order from Lodge) this 1 quart came factory sealed in a nice yellow Lodge box. This was the first thing that impressed me. Then I opened the box, there were a few excess seasoning around the handle edges but nothing that a little bit of use and re-seasoning can't fix. Even though it arrived late (9pm), I needed to find out if another reviewer was correct about it being the perfect size for a simple packaged ramen. As you can see in the attached picture, it was in fact a perfect size. The hard noodles were very slightly bigger in a couple of corners but a seconds in the boiling water took care of this issue. I usually don't cover ramen when I cook it, but since I had a cover, it worked perfect and it seemed like it helped with the cooking. No boil over at all. No issue with eating right out of the pan; mind the hot handles. Last night I tried out a concentrated Campbell soup. Again, perfect size for a the can content with a can of water. Covered again and heated on a low flame. Can out perfect and again was the right depth for eating right out of the pan. I was still hungry, so I wiped the pan, sprayed with vegetable oil and cooked up a ground beef patty, added onions, pepper and mushrooms. Very versatile. I've done this same thing with the 2 quart but I end up making too much. This 1 quart prevents me from over eating. Yeah, yeah, I should have stopped with just the soap but I was excited with my new pad. I see that today the price is still down so if you're on the fence, today is your day.

Very nice product so far
I've been using this to bake artisan bread. It requires a preheat of 500 degrees and can certainly take that temperature so far. Also, I think this product is made in USA so better than one that might be manufactured elsewhere.

It’s decent
While overall the product is fine and well made however It lags when compared to Indian product when it comes to material thickness especially when considering the added cost. While a super heavy material is not ideal , when it comes to dutch oven more thickness for it helps in biriyani not burning when giving dum . This may not be ideal in this case. However this came really well seasoned which lags in Indian brands( its no big deal since cooking in it gets its seasoned anyway )and because of the relatively light material I find myself reaching out for this more often than the other heavier Indian ones . Indian dutch ovens from reputed brands are all much better material thickness wise but are not having the same finish as this one . Nonetheless once well seasoned one can hardly notice those imperfection in Indian brands . Overall Lodge is not a bad oroduct but competitive ( and may be better ?)options are available at half price in India. Rock ,Indus Valley ,70s kitchen are all that I can vouch for .

Great for sourdough bread
I first made a sourdough loaf in the oven, just on a tray and it came out very flat with no oven spring. This dutch oven is perfect for creating good bread with a good oven spring and nice crust. I needed to send the first one back, the quality is good but i think the quality control is poor, therefore the first one had some rust and a few chipped areas. The second one is fine. Worth the cost and wouldn't use anything else to bake bread. The size is good up to about 500 g loaf (small/ medium). I tend to bake two loafs one at a time.
