Needs better instructions

Make sure your corners are square and that the shelf is square. Instructions say to drill a 3/16” hole but supplies 1/8” screws.

K1897S basket: Nice looking and durable but could be better.

I installed this stainless steel shower basket on a tiled wall corner of one of the bathrooms. The Kohler website does not provide information of the type and grade of stainless steel they use (only claiming that is durable and that their finishes resist corrosion and tarnish) or where the baskets are manufactured. After some bad experiences with items manufactured in China with stainless steel that proved to be of low quality, we felt a bit unease about how well this shower basket would hold up. 1. This basket forms a true 90 degree angle at its corner. Kohler advises the basket must be mounted to a brace between the wall studs to ensure the weight of the items contained in the shower basket are adequately supported. Although a brace had not been installed between the studs on the corner when the bathroom was tiled, since we had selected 1/2-inch thick, large ceramic tiles for the tiling, and studs are often present very close to wall corners, I decided the basket could be safely installed for holding usual shower stuff. With the right tools, installation is straightforward and easy: use a 3/16" tile drill with even, light pressure (do not drill in the underlying brace if there is one) and apply silicone sealant into the holes before mounting the basket. Be aware there is no provision for subsequent adjustment in the basket rim if the holes are not level. 2. The four screws included are of brushed steel. No screw caps are provided, so the heads will be exposed unless you get four stainless steel caps on your own (shown in Fig.1). For an item at this price range, the lack of such caps is a noticeable shortcoming. 3. Fresh out of the box, not all the metal bars forming the body of the shower basket I received were properly aligned. Their alignment took some time given my concern it may loosen pieces. With the best possible alignment I could get, the spacing between the metal bars, although quite acceptable, is not perfect. Figure 2 compares the alignment of the bars with that of a lined white paper, showing that the spacing between bars is not always the same at both bar ends (which is not caused by lens distortion). I do not know if other K-1897-S baskets have this issue. 4. This review is written one year after the installation. The basket has held up very well so far, and there are no signs of corrosion or other problems. It should rate 5 stars with additional screw caps and properly aligned bars, but what I received did not rate higher than 3 stars. UPDATE October 2019 In continued use since its installation four and a half years ago, the basket shows no signs of corrosion and looks just as good as new. I have increased the review's rating from 3 to 4 stars.

Great shower cady

Well constructed and sturdy - strong enough that you can pump shampoo bottles that are sitting in it. Made from high quality stainless steel. Note, for most installations you'll be screwing into tile. Recommend buying anchors so you can screw into them (product only comes with screws that need to be secured in studs). Further note, if you use anchors, take into account that they will have a small lip that will through out your holes on the other side by a few mm (or fractions of an inch), which may make it hard to screw into a corner.

Looks nice

You will need to get a drillbit that will go through tile. And to make sure that the hole that your drill is filled with caulking to prevent moisture and tree within the screw holes.

Shower Basket

Some showers have a window and some people store their shampoo, conditioner, etc. on the window sill. Pretty soon, the window sill starts to rot out. This shower basket fits in a corner and eliminates the possibility of that expensive rot problem happening. Using the correct size concrete drill bit, drill four holes in the mortar lines to match the holes in the shower basket. Make sure they are level. Shoot some silicone into each hole, install a plastic anchor in each hole, shoot a little more silicone to fill up the anchor, and install the shower basket using the stainless steel screws provided. Installation is simple and the basket is large enough to hold your shower products.

SUPER PRODUCT AND FAST DELIVERY

Ordered yesterday and received today, I will install tomorrow. Very well made, solid construction. Will be a nice addition to my shower. UPDATE: Installed and I could not be happier, should have done this before. VERY IMPORTANT..... make sure you drill exact holes and use a special 3/16” tile drill bit, it has an arrow head on a straight shaft, this bit does not skip and makes a perfect hole, you have to spray water on the bit so it does not overheat....use 3/16” headless plastic plugs and squeeze silicon into the holes to prevent water leaking in.... before drilling make sure it is level.

Excellent product

Outstanding quality. Large size is big enough to hold large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and there is still some space. This baskets look great in my shower and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a high quality and great looking product that will hold many items.
