Perfect Replacement
This is way cheaper than buying a new seat or buying this part through a toilet repair place. It is an official Kohler replacement part and was a breeze to install. All you will need is a pair of needle nose pliers to help pull the old dampeners away from the seat and lid holes. Swap in the new hinge, gently push the new dampeners into the holes until they snap into place, install the cover, remove the black place holders from the seat clamps and snap it back onto your toilet. If it takes you more than 5 minutes, stop and go watch Kohler's 2 minutes how-to video on YouTube. Saved a bunch of money and now have a toilet seat that does not slam down! The only issue I had was that the replacement part did not come with the black cover (see picture) that snaps into the hinge bottom and hides/protects the dampeners. I just reused the black cover from my old hinge although it was not a perfect fit.

"bisque" was not an easy find. Now cue the blank looking 19 year ...
The Kohler soft touch seats always break, especially if there are kids around forcing the seat down, so I've been buying new seats at around $60 per. Then off I go to shop and it would always be a hassle to match the color and find a supplier! In my case, "bisque" was not an easy find. Now cue the blank looking 19 year sales guy behind the counter, "all I think we carry is white, I don't think they make any other colors". It would have been easier to look for "martian parmesan brie crust". Then it occurred to me that I might be able to repair the seat instead of replacing it. Boom! $18 bucks and a pair of pliers later...Done. Moderately easy to install. I had a couple minor issues but got past them. Thanks to all the folks who reviewed this item. That helped a lot.

Significant improvement over earlier versions.
Significantly improved over the previous version of the part. Holds onto the studs through the toilet bowl much better. Hinges can't slide in and lose their grip on the lid. That didn't keep the lip from functioning at first, but it would grind away the end of the hinge pin until it was too short to hold the lid on.The new internal design moves the bulkheads outwards so that the pins can't slide in nearly as far. If you have an unusual toilet/lid/seat color, a replacements will be very expensive. For a pretty good solution, buy a cheap color, remove the hinge pins, and use them in the old part. You won't get them to fit quite right, but they'll be absolutely good enough.

Color does not match...
Friends: Our Kohler toilets are the color " Mexican Sand ". This color is no longer made for the elongated bowl hinge kit. Thinking Allowed...... Arthur

The Kohler product is well designed. This hinge replacement was easy to install. It saved replacing the entire seat for a minor problem.

This is so easy to install. As others have said, the instructions are unnecessarily complicated. They provide new dampers (the reason I bought this kit) so I'm not sure why instructions say to remove old ones and install in new hinge kit. Thanks to other reviewers, it took 5 mins to change for a non handy homeowner (me). I will keep the old unbroken damper just in case. Soft close works again, although it appears to close a bit slower. Maybe there's a break in period. In the end, this kit saved me from having to replace the whole seat so I'm happy. 5 stars for reviewers who provided very helpful information.

Overall great purchase.
Original soft close dampers were failing (seat closing harder) after some 15+ years. Ordered the above with some apprehension as to how installation would go - but instructions good and replacement was quite easy! Even the colour, almond, was a perfect match. Very pleased to highly recommend this kit.
