I have had a mouse or two chewing through my supply of my cereals and other dried food items. My mistake, so I moved all the food items to the basement. Yet the mouse proceeded to work on my tissue paper stock pile. If you had mouse problem before, you know they defecate and urinate where they eat. I felt the mouse was pissed that I took away its' food stock and was seeking revenge. Of course, this means war. When I got the mouse traps, I was a bit disappointed. No instructions, and no manufacture packaging. They are of light weight and much smaller than I thought. But once I looked at its beefy spring and tested its sensitivity, I was sure it would work. I don't care if the mouse has reflex of a ninja (actually, I am pretty certain no ninja can out reflex a mouse), it is not going to escape the grasp of the clamp. It is that fast. Tested with a thin branch, not my finger. I proceed to put both of them in the garage during daytime. One on the back of a shelf where it chew through my cereal boxes and tissues. Since that is where the mouse had lots of success, I was confident that it is where it will make its rounds. And another elsewhere. For bait, I used a 1/2 a piece of cheese cracker. And make sure you be gentle when placing it down. Its trigger is very sensitive as well. When I checked them the same night, I heard distinctive sound of struggle coming from the one near the shelf. Sure enough, it caught the mouse. Both its left front hind leg and the head are caught by the clamp. Sadly, it was still alive, but I can tell it is struggling to breath. I finished what the trap could not and I will just leave it at that. The other trap did not catch any mouse. I am sure it was due to the fact that it is NOT located near mouse's routes. Still, 50% success rate is more than satisfactory. Thumbs up! Update (11/2012): After the first kill, no more mouse ever caught. As if to mock me, they will either trigger the trap or flip it. Don't know how the mice do it, but they are onto the trap. Smart little bastards. Update II (01/2013): I got my 2nd kill today. It was not easy. I had to let the trap be cleansed for a few days by rain/dew to mask any smell. I had work hard to find rats' routes/nesting place (leaves brought in as nesting material, rat feces, etc...). I had place the trap strategically so that the trap end is facing where the rat is likely to approach (to avoid rats approaching the trap from behind). I had to secure the trap with wire so that if it is not dead right away, It won't drag the trap to god knows where. Last thing I need is to search for rotting rat in my garage. And most important of all, wear gloves when doing all of these. You don't want your oily finger or scent on anything near the trap. I wore a well worn glove that is always left open in the shed. To those reviewers who claims it does not work after the 1st time: it is not the tool's fault but you. A mouse will learn from its mistakes. Don't think you can just do the same routine and expect the mice will wait in line to have a bite on that tasty bait.

One did the job, other not so much
So here is the good part. Within 10 mins of setting the trap, I had the thud and the first kill (actually I didnt have the stomach to see the scene for next 15 mins, but when I checked there was a kill). So the mice which was bothering for couple weeks was dead. I suppose the clean-up would be easy but again I haven't killed a mouse in over 15 years (Its been so long I have forgotten which is plural, mouse/ mice see above for the typo, and wait for the grammar Nazi to show up. OK that's digressing, the point being that last time I killed mice was an epic battle, in a closed room with tons of furniture being moved around and the weaponry involving sticks and batons). But now I lack that stomach so I ended up just throwing the trap away in trash with the dead mouse hanging by it. I still had the second trap on and ready (as so many users here have pointed, when you get your first, you usually get your second soon). 2 days later I hear the mouse again running around under the sink. When I opened the cabinet, I saw the trap was tripped and the bait cleaned up pretty good! So one trap worked as advertised, I am not sure what happened with the other but it was cleaned up. Peanut butter with half a real peanut worked as bait. Multiple traps are a good idea. Also lining them up against wall and giving the mouse bit hiding place is advisable. The traps do set off easy while you are trying to put them (I had that problem first time I was keeping them under the sink). I just hope I get a kill or an escape, not a smear job or mouse taking the trap away to show his mates or a prolonged death (as some have reported). I like the product based on first experience, I have set up the second trap again, if it works I will bump up the rating. Just for reference, I stay in big city with multi-storey apt buildings, cramped places. So if you are in similar situation give it a try. As other wise folks have said here, I need to make sure the hole from which the little bugger arrives, it needs to be closed first.
