Great for Heavy Duty Bicycle Wheel Building Projects
Used to build a heavyweight rear wheel for a 3-spd Chinese Flying Pigeon. The hub flanges on the Nexus 3-speed hub are closer together than on a normal hub resulting in strain on the elbow of the spokes. Normally, the spoke runs up against the hub flange giving that elbow some lateral support. In the absence of that, the spokes weaken over time and break... you replace a spoke, and another breaks. Even if you eventually replace all the spokes, they keep breaking. By using two of these washers for each spoke, the head of the spoke is kept from seating into the spoke hole all the way and this has the effect of pulling the spoke closer to the flange and giving greater support to that elbow... the result is no broken spokes. This is an idea gone into some detail at the Sheldon Brown website... the section on wheel building. 36 spokes = 72 washers, so the bag of 100 is more than enough for one such wheel, even if you have to weed a few out for poor quality.

The quality is nothing like the photo. Many were off center, had inconsistent holes and thickness, or had the hole not even stamped out.

Good for the price...
I bought these to bush out standard spokes on a heavy-duty bicycle hub, and they work fine for that. They are rather crudely made with a lot of miss-hits and burrs, but they give you plenty extra in the bag to make up for the bad ones. For the price, they are perfect for what I needed them for - but don't think you are going to get a finely finished, consistent parts - the dimensions listed are nominal, and you will find the tolerances pretty loose.

I was skeptical at first but they worked out. I put the burr towards the hub. Mine are .020 thick, .095 I.D., .190 O.D. I'm lacing a 1962 - 2 speed automatic Bendix hub to a Sun Ringle Envy 20" wheel for my 1986 Schwinn Phantom

poor quality control
The quality control on these washers is unsatisfactory. About 1/4 (25 pieces) of the bag had defects; miss punched, large burrs, etc. NONE of the ones in my bag had any sort of final machine like that pictured in the ad, which appears to show that both sides of the I.D. have been deburred. Maybe this was just a bad batch that missed all the finish steps after the punch/stamping.

Poor quality.......
Very poor quality, these are stamped (die cut) not machined, burrs around hole from stamping have to be deburred, you get what you pay for.........
