To preface this, I only wear Hudson jeans, as they fit me like a glove and in the adult version, are excellent, reliable, high quality. Hudson is new to the kids' denim game and their sizing is all over the place, extremely inconsistent from design to design. My daughter is a somewhat lean but fairly average 10 year old and wears a size 8 in most leggings and jeans. I ordered her every style in the Hudson in a size 8 and 10, to see what she would like and was baffled at their unreliable sizing and HUGE WAISTS in all of the cuts and fits they make for girls. (Whereas the rest of the fit below the waist on each cut is normal and proportionate.) Their denim and dye quality is also hit or miss in different styles, which I was surprised at, based on my experience with the Hudson name. (Some cheaper/scratchier, and the black and grey dyes reek terribly with a heavy sulfur odor which will knock your socks off and took three washes to tone down.) This pair is an elastic only pull-on waist (not adjustable like most of their styles except this and the jegging) and in the size 8, was 4.5" (!) too wide in the waist. Giant. Fell down. It would have to be altered by a tailor to fit her, replaced with an entirely new elastic band. She was so disappointed because she loved the fun, trendy, flowy cut. (It's also more of a cropped, flood cut.) If you have an average, slim or petite kiddo, Hudson kids jeans are definitely not the best-fitting brand for that body type, and seem to be geared toward fuller girls. Even then, the waists in all the cuts were disproportionately wide compared to the rest of the Hudson kids' jean design (in hip, butt, thighs, calves), which are more traditionally proportionate/fitting, like other brands which can universally fit many body types. The Hudson Flare (please make a non-ripped version for schools that don't allow tears!) and Skinny/Slim fits fit her in the brand, but the rest of the cuts were unwearable. (Still, in the Flare and Skinny, she had to adjust the Hudsons by 8 notches on each side, which is far too wide compared to other adjustable brands.) I was surprised that Gymboree jeans were a higher quality denim, dye and far better cut than my personal favorite, go-to Hudson brand. I look forward to Hudson kids fixing these sizing/waist issues so that slim kids can also fit into the brand like their moms can, because their designs are stylish, thoughtful, and on-trend. You can do it, Hudson!
