Laurie Gates Nova Blue and Gibson Elite Mayfair Bay- essentially identical

If, like us, you purchased the Laurie Gates Nova set at Costco, then later went back for another, only to find them all gone- you, like us, have stumbled across the set you're looking for. As it turns out (according to the insert included), Gibson is actually the parent company for the LG brand, among others. The differences are very slight and not too noticeable at a glance. The biggest variation is the level of speckling within the blue (the LG bowl is on the right in both pics). I used a bright light to highlight the speckling difference- the blues are actually a little closer in hue to each other in typical lighting. The blue is still a little lighter, as is the rim, but it's close. The cream/white is comparable and not as white as the manufacturer's pictures would seem to indicate. No one but you is going to notice the slight variations. As a bonus, our dish selection has grown. We were looking for more plates and bowls. The LG set came with smaller ice cream bowls, the Gibson comes with larger salad bowls, so now 3 different bowl sizes in our cabinets. All for cheaper than purchasing from non-original sellers of the now-retired dish set. We are quite pleased we took the chance and purchased.

Love the Dishes, Especially the Wide Bowls!

Okay, I try not to put much importance on material possessions, but these dishes are everything I hoped and dreamed. They kind of remind me of the gills on the underside of mushrooms, but the ridges are shallow enough that they're super easy to clean. The green is earthy but a very pretty shade, and pics really don't do them justice. They're perfect for my decor. I did end up having to return the first set due to defects in the glaze of two pieces but the second set had no issues. The wide bowls are amazing for anything that may need to be mixed, like salads or pasta or cereal, and have a tall enough lip that things stay inside when doing so. The taller bowls are deep and perfect for soup, with less worry about boil-over when used in the microwave. They're the perfect weight: heavy enough to be good quality but not too heavy to be cumbersome. Dishes were packed well and both sets arrived unbroken, which is more than I can say for some companies. My boyfriend loved them so much that he also got a set. Highly recommended.

Amazing!

I've had these for about 6months at this point and they are very well made and clean well. No issues when washed in the dishwasher and while they do get hot like anything does when it's put in the microwave (meek-row-wav-ay????) they don't crack or anything. Highly recommend.

So pretty

I love this set. I love the two different size bowls versa getting coffee mugs. They feel so nice and have a great weight to them. Very sturdy and well made. I have so many compliments on them as well. Great for everyday use and would look great even dressed up for a nice dinner party as well.

This is definitely a show piece ! My favorite set dishes I’ve ever owned the bowls are my absolute favorite. They are sturdy and have a light weight but durable as well. Picture is actual true to description !

Very beautiful print.

This set is really beautiful. The plates are not "light weight" but they are not heavy either. They just have the right hand feeling... the type of weight you expect from a solid piece with good quality without being too heavy. The print is very beautiful. To any plant anatomy geek out there: I am sure this print is base on a monocot stem micrograph.
