Need Muscles!
Says it was an original ge product. Fit my Hotpoint washing machine just fine... We ended up having to CUT the old hub nut off because there was just no breaking it loose. So then ordered this. Now, we didn't buy the special tool to tighten this on. Thought we had it tight enough, washed a few loads of clothes, and the nut came loose, making the washing machine make a ton of ungodly racket. So if you don't use the spanner wrench, and if you don't have a deep socket for your impact, tighten this with a wrench by whacking the ever loving crap out of said wrench with a mallet. A heavy mallet. Once you think it is on tight enough, whack it some more for good measure. It helps if you have someone holding the actual wash tub so it doesn't spin. Rest for about 5 minutes (grab a cold one- you've earned it) Go back for more tightening with the wrench/mallet combo. Repeat these steps at least 4 times. Call and order a pizza to go with those cold ones... your body needs the 1,500 calories you've just expended tightening the stupidest hub nut design GE made for their washing machines.

As expected.
As expected. I actually can refer you to a video regarding this product install and my personal experience with it. On YouTube Its called "Hotpoint washing machine. How to remove the agitator. And more." To get at this part you'll need to know how.

Genuine GE Washer Hub Nut
I bought this hub nut as a replacement part when replacing the mode shifter assembly on my 7-year-old GE profile washing machine. The part was a genuine GE replacement part in the original GE packaging. The cost was substantially lower than my local appliance parts store. Note that this nut has a backwards thread. You loosen by rotating clockwise and tighten by rotating counter-clockwise. If you are buying this part, the one thing I recommend highly is that you buy the TB123A spanner wrench: Clothes Washer Wrench w/ Adapter - TB123A This is a $12 part on Amazon, and it helps you cleanly remove and install the nut. I used penetrating oil on the threads, and with a couple of very hard whacks on the spanner wrench, my hub nut was loose in about 1 minute. The TB123A wrench so cleanly removed the hub nut, it allowed me to re-use the original nut and save $8 on a replacement. This was totally worth the cost of the wrench. I was skeptical that I could buy appliance parts on Amazon, but this turned out to be a great experience. I got everything I needed to fix my washer, and saved at least $300 on my repair. Thank you Amazon.

Three things to know about this GE washer tub nut
This is the genuine General Electric tub nut for several of their top-load washers. Three things you MUST know: 1. You need the custom wrench for it--either the cheapie linked here or the much more expensive genuine GE part--and a decent hammer to swing at it. I'd say a 3-lb. engineer's hammer, minimally. 2. If you're going to remove this nut in the course of a different repair, go ahead and purchase a replacement. Odds are good you'll tear up the original tub nut getting it off, and if it's several years old, you may even have to cold-chisel it off. 3. Tighten, tighten, tighten, TIGHTEN. Use the marks on the exposed spindle as a guide to make sure you're still tightening it. Hit it until you can't hit it even one more time. Then rest. Then come back and hit it as many times as you can stand it again. This is so important because you get a finite, and SMALL, number of times to tighten this (soft) nut before it strips and you have to replace it.

replace it
when it takes so much work to get the part on you should always replace parts that have wear and tear even if they're not broke. You've done all that work don't be cheap

perfect replacement for my GE washing machine
got this nut, and, it's a perfect replacement. one thing to note, and, i had to dig for this info, use LOCTITE RED glue when installing this nut. as i found out, even tightening the nut with a hammer, 3 times, without the glue, it wouldn't stay tight. apparently a common problem that is easily resolved with the LOCTITE RED glue.
