A little young for early elementary kids
These are super cute! Just felt a little bit young for my school-age kids. (I didn't read the description very well. There are ZERO words, just cute little pictures to tell stories off of) Cute and sturdy - just not for us.

Pretty but hard to create a story
I bought these originally because I really love Stephanie Graegin's illustrations and love games from this genre. The cards really are beautiful as expected and strudy, but it is hard to make a comprehensive story out of them. Many of them relate only loosely to one another. You can still talk about what you see in every card but not exactly to make a story.

I was really excited for this set as my 3.5yr old is obsessed with hearing us make up stories and she is just starting to participate in telling them as well. Unfortunately this just isn't what I had imagined when I ordered it. I thought there would be more general cards of actions such as animals eating, swimming, walking, and cards of various settings such as playgrounds, etc that would allow you to come up with a variety of stories easily. Instead there seems to be a theme to the cards and a more obvious standard order to pull them together. My daughter hands me random cards and I certainly feel like I'm doing a great job of telling a story and pulling things together. But even with that it is really hard to go "off script" and have it be really different than the last one. This might be better purely for a young kid to learn how to tell a story then a way of injecting some spice into your creativity as a parent to tell stories. I had thought I would be buying more sets and mixing them together, but I can see that mixing sets would be impossible. A good idea, just not what I was looking for.

Interesting concept, nicely illustrated
Bought this for my 3-year-old daughter's birthday. We've played with it only a couple of times so far, but she enjoys it - even if she does expect me to tell most of the story. My four and a half year old son is probably more interested, not to mention able to repeat my stories back to me. I think the set will grow with the kids for a couple of years anyway. As an adult I find myself trying to figure out how the various cards are "supposed" to fit together: there four or five separate sub-sets in the cards, each with common character, place, and/or object features. There is some overlap between the sub-sets as well, in case - for instance - you want the birthday party to take place in the park. Of course, at the age my kids are, the lack of actual congruity between any two or three cards is not exactly a problem. I hope that they don't find the relatively small number of storylines limiting as they grow, and find themselves locked into the same scenarios over and over. That'll be something I'll have to fight myself when "facilitating."

These are ADORABLE!
The kids and I love these cards (we also have a jungle one), but the Animal Village set is our favorite. Beautiful illustrations and quirky scenes! We use these at bedtime when we want something different from reading a book! Highly recommend!

Excellent for language skills! Play therapy too!
I bought this for my sons 5 & 8. We play this a couple of different ways. One way is for each person to take a card and make up a story about that card, and then the next person takes a card and builds onto the story. You also can lay all the cards out and build a sequential story. This card set is excellent for language development, memory recall, preparing for creative writing, as well as sparking the child's imagination! I could also see this as an excellent tool for play therapy, allowing the child to use the cards to talk about their feelings or perhaps what's going on in their life. Both of my sons truly enjoy playing with these, and it's fun to see where their imaginations lead their verbal storytelling. This set is fine for either boys or girls, it is gender neutral. The illustrations are colorful and engaging, showing many different characters, but at least three cards with the same character to allow a good story flow throughout the entire set. A few cards show all of the characters together doing different things, as is show on the box cover. A great price for a great purpose!

A fun and/or thoughtful activity
Lots of fun - probably a 4-5 year old and up will be able to play with independently - good for a car ride perhaps too. Our 3-yr old, needs/wants someone to "play" it with her - to suggest bits of the story to go with each card. But that's not bad as it's something you can do if low energy. One night when the family was gathered, we each took three cards. Baba (grandfather) started with one card which he showed to everyone and begin "Once upon a time....." Then, the next person showed one of his cards and continued the story, which can be anything! Around and around we went, sometimes making sense, sometimes not. Our favorite line, when it was our turn but we couldn't figure out how to move the story forward was to move it sideways, beginning with "Meanwhile......." Very worth it.

Random pictures
I typically love eeBoo's products and have their other story cards, but this one is just not as good. The pictures are cute, but so little connection between the pictures that it is hard to make a story. Other packs include Character cards, item cards and location. This contains all characters doing actions and doesn't leave a lot to interpret (e.g. a squirrel baking a pie, hedgehogs building a treehouse, a badger fixing a plane, a bear hiding behind a tree).
