Great for pre-k and sensory activities!

The Educational Insights Playfoam Shape & Learn Alphabet Set was a huge HIT in our house! My 4 year old daughter LOVED it! She has autism and has often struggled with varying textures and also staying focused on certain learning activities. Today she immediately grabbed for the foam without hesitation and commented how soft & squishy it was. She picked out a letter card and correctly identified it and the coordinating picture on the card. I gave her direction and she immediately understood the concept of squishing the foam to shape the letter by following the numbers & arrows on each card. My 2 year old didn't want to be left out so he quickly scooped up a card and yelled out "Elephant!" and made an elephant noise for the E letter card! The recommended age for this product is 3-6 so I knew he was a bit under the recommendation but he LOVED playing with the foam too and he liked looking at the picture on each card and identifying what it was so we were able to use the cards in many ways. My daughter also used the cards for sounding out each letter and she thought of other words that also begin with that letter while she worked with the foam to shape it. My kiddos loved it and played with it for a long, long time. The good news for parents is that the foam NEVER dries out!!! NEVER! There's no mess like play dough has and the clean up is so FAST and EASY! This is a must-have product to help kiddos have fun while learning their letters and learning how to write them too! Fun, educational, and mess-free! This is a product we will be using again and again!

The beads are hard not really flexible

I wouldn’t purchase this or recommend to anyone! It’s a cool concept but the beads aren’t great.

I was a little hesitant because I HATE playdough. Anything that gets all over

I had never heard of this, but when I did, I got it!! I was a little hesitant because I HATE playdough. Anything that gets all over, and stuck in my carpet, or all over my furniture, makes me quite irritated. I got these out on my own first, so that I could inspect and see how best to let my kids play with them. Finally- I decided at the table, and let them do it without much supervision. To put it lightly- they have had a ball. The "foam" is just tiny sticky balls, that stick together. I've only had it open for 24 hours, and the box claims that it never dries out, so I may need to edit depending on how that goes. My kids have got to do the letters with the foam, which is what it is for, but then they've tried making mustaches on their faces, different shapes, as well as other imaginative things to make. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars, only because it can still be a bit messy- NOTHING like play dough, but if you can't get the tiny balls together, they will find their way around your house. Other than that- we are loving it!

I guess I had higher expectations for this. What I like most about this set would be the alphabet cards themselves. I like that they include the stroke order to writing the letters and a little illustration of something that begins with that letter in the corner of the card (queen for “Q”) However - the stroke order is somewhat lost in the process of using the floam to sculpt the letters. In fact the floam makes the whole process of using this set extremely frustrating for my 3yo because it is a bit unruly. I myself find it difficult to sculpt with. The foam balls shed out of the floam fairly easily, most likely due to its consistency. I appreciate that it is claims to “never dry out” but it is inherently dry and hard to work with because of the formula used. Overall the floam is fun to use on its own and the cards would be good to use under trace paper, or with regular play dough - rendering this particular set somewhat pointless.
