Remote is faulty and difficult

My 4-year-old requested a remote-controlled train from Santa. For the price I thought this would be an awesome gift, however, it is not worth the money. The train itself works with the buttons at the top, but the remote control is finicky and only works intermittently, which you can imagine makes it a real joy with a 4-year-old (sarcasm). Anyway, a total waste of money since they have the same kind of train for $20 with no remote that works well. I am glad I had the foresight to order both.

High quality toy

Such a high quality joy ! My youngest son loves it as well as my 11 yr old son . They wouldnt play with any other train toys other than brio trains

Good enough for a young child

This train works and holds up to some banging around. My 3 year old was very happy to receive this gift. Drawback is that the remote is finicky. It will lose connection with the train and you have to try to remember which buttons to turn the train off then back on to get it to work again. Not sure if I do it incorrectly sometimes or if it just doesn't work sometimes, there are only 3 buttons. Always make sure the train and remote are set to the same channel. Either way it is somewhat annoying. My son is usually quite happy to just push the buttons on the train to make it go forward, backward, or stop when the remote is giving us trouble, so it's still usable.

So Fun; IR remote, line of sight necessary

So cute! The little person doesn’t work well with the travel cart though, it’s arms stick out of the train and can catch on more narrow parts of the train tracks. It’s not as fast as other electric brio locomotives, but who cares, its fun and cute to watch. As mentioned above, this comes with an IR remote (infrared). So don’t expect to be controlling this from across the room.

Super Slow

Incredibly disappointed with this Brio product. The train is so slow, slower than average. Therefore it is not fun to play with it. Waste of money to pay for such a slow train. Found similar and more affordable versions of this train that runs way faster because it is of lighter material.

Remote is hard to use

The kids love this. The only thing I have a small problem with is the remote. It works by infrared and as a result you have to point the remote directly at the train. This is difficult for smaller children.

Some tips for remote...

Good train. My 6 year old loves it. Not very fast but not bad. Strong enough to pull a couple of carriages. Gets up small hills. Tips for people who can't get the remote to work: 1. Make sure the remote and train are switched to the same channel (A or B). 2. Activate the train by pressing the forward button on the top of it. The remote won't work until the train is activated first. 3. It's infra red so you need to point the remote at the red window on top of the train. Just like your tv remote needs to be pointed at the TV. Move closer or elevate slightly so there is a clear line of sight between controller and top of train. (Also make sure child's hand is not covering the front of the controller.) 4. If you have bright sunlight the infra red won't be very effective. Darken the room.

Stopped working after 6 months

I bought this item for my 3-year-old grandson on 6 December 2019. It was great while it worked, but it's now completely non-functional [2 June 2020]. I'm aware that both controller and engine need to be set to the same channel, that working batteries [1.5V] need to be fitted, and that infra-red requires line of sight. I've seen other reviews indicating the same short life - somewhat at odds with the statements on Brio's website regarding durability and workmanship. If this is a common problem with this product, Amazon should remove it from its website. My grandson adores his model railway, and plays with it every day, but I shall think twice before adding further Brio items to his collection.

2 defective units back to back

Ordered this for my son for chirstnas. The first one came defective out of the box. Got a replacement. After 2 weeks of waiting, we received the second unit. It broke after a week. Didn't even bothered to try a third one. The second was either a cheap refurbished (the components were taped in the box instead of being strapped) or another return that was forwarded directly to me without quality control. don't purchase unless you want to waste your money and time.

Cumple con lo esperado, complemento expectacular!!!

Responde perfectamente con la descripción. Complemento perfecto para juego de tren de madera. Posee botones grandes en la locomotora para fácil manipulación de la peque. El sonido y las luces (se activan a voluntad) lo hacen bastante llamativo. En llano puede arrastrar de 5-6 vagones manteniendo una buena marcha. Sube rampas a la perfección, no se queda corto de potencia para nada. La única pega que le pondría sería que la conexión con el mando es por infrarrojos por lo que siempre debes tener contacto visual directo con la locomotora y dependiendo del montaje del circuito a veces es complicado. También se agradecería batería en vez de 4x pilas.
