Heavy duty drilling in steel

Yes, does a fantastic job, even in hardened cast-iron. I found that a 350 rpm setting on your heavy duty drill press is perfect.

this is a good quality drill bit. it cuts great and seems to stay sharp. i always use cutting oil so im sure that helps as well

Needed a 1" drill bit to drill through Robinson's decking after pilot hole. Works great.

Not for heavy duty use

I knew it was HSS black oxide and not Cobalt but I only needed to widen 8 holes from 7/8 inch to 1 inch in 1/4 hard steel. Got four done but last one was extremely hard to do. Not sure now whether the bit will handle soft metal.

drilled a few holes with it, only thing I don't like is it would be better if the shank had 3 flats.....

CAN DRILL 1" THICK OF STEEL

So I used this drill bit with some lubricant to extend the hole of my trailer hitch from 3/4" to 1". It's like drilling 1"-1-1/2" thick of steel. I took me like 20 mins of drilling, but it works, even just with my cheap RYOBI drill.
