Quirky but fun.

Black and Decker have done something no other manufacturer of tools have even dared, they’ve gone “Beyond”. It’s a bit of a weird concept and I’m sure the word “urban” was bought up many times during its development until someone came up with a brand new name that literally means beyond our scope of imagination. So now we have no idea what’s going on. In many ways this screwdriver doesn’t feel like a Black and Decker tool, it’s packaged in a minimal brown cardboard box and doesn’t have a traditional plug, opting instead for a micro usb cable similar to the one that came with your phone, but doesn’t supply an adapter for it. The big problem with micro usb charging is its only an advantage for small devices because it charges the small battery quickly, in a power tool it’ll charge faster and discharge just as fast. As usual the manual is overly complicated, for example there’s a ring included that has a tag that reads “see page 7” so I go to page 7, which is crammed with information most of which says “warning” and at the very bottom there’s 2 lines that says it’s an extension, you’ll probably only need it once if you can find it. The big light is also pretty quirky, it’s on/off when you squeeze the trigger in drill position. Or you can keep it on for longer periods when it’s in the off position, which means in poor light you have to line it up with the screw while in the off position and then switch to the on position to put the screw in. Activating the light with a soft squeeze in the on/off position would makes so much more sense. My general feeling is that these are designed and manufactured by a third party and then stamped with the Black and Decker logo. Now whereas this might sound like I dislike this screwdriver, I really don't, it’s an inexpensive light duty screwdriver small enough to keep in a kitchen drawer with the added ability to use hex keys. I’m a bit of a fan of Black and Decker and have a couple of heavy duty screwdriver/drills in my toolbox, this saves me having to dig around for them. One last point is there isn’t a case included, so you’ll need to keep its box to keep everything together. Also don’t forget that you’ll need a micro USB adapter for recharging.

Ok in a pinch, but the battery runs down quickly

I got this because I thought the concept was interesting, and it seems to do what it claims well enough. The little tools that come with self assembled furniture fit in there nicely, although they do have a tendency to stick out a bit. The light works ok too. My only real issue is that the battery runs down quite quickly. So you might need to recharge it once if you're trying to put together more than one piece of furniture at a time. Also, this doesn't have a clutch or anything, so be careful when its getting close, and tighten by hand for the last bit. The battery will last a bit longer as well if you do it this way. It still saves your wrists a bunch, in any case. For the cost, its fine. However, if you can afford it, you'll probably want to spring for a decent hand drill and some hex bits. Having a clutch and being able to swap the battery are worth the extra money long term.

Great for small projects

Just what I needed to put together some furniture I ordered. It could have better battery life, though it torques really good. And once charged it has a really long standby time. At least two weeks.

It does the job!

I own or have owned over the years many small screwdrivers and in all the cases it seems I got what I paid for. The case with this driver is it does more than I bargained for. First of all they fixed the light situation where it actually shines on the area you are working. Next thing is they made a "chuck" to tighten down your driver blades and even use regular drill bits which will not replace any drill. I was not looking for a tool to attach 2x4's together for building something, I wanted a simple household easy to use screwdriver. I got it......five stars.

Such a cleaver tool and GTR string winder

The speed is just right for use as a guitar string winder, which is my first use for this tool. It has keyless chuck akin to what is found on an electric drill, except it has a slot allowing chucking of hex keys and other "L" shaped wrenches. The lighted end is fairly bright and might be handy for interior or dark spots. I'm pleasantly surprised with this tool and the price has made it a wonderful value.

Great for small jobs

I bought this tool a few weeks back and it has been a great time saver. Working on diy projects around the house and having this for removing screws as well as screwing things back up or adding screws has been so much simpler. Easy to manage and the charge lasts quite a while. Does not take too long to recharge. One thing I will comment on. I have small hands and this tool fits them well, so if you have larger hands this might not be the tool for you.

Nice little unit that did a good job

Just built a tv stand . The battery lasted for the 20 screws I used and the unit did a good job with more torque than I expected. It is a good little unit worth the money.
