doesn't work well, either jams or the cheese pops through
I really prefer stainless steel over the plastic, and was eager to try a rotary cheese grater like I see the waiters in restaurants using. I was nervous about buying one without any reviews, but decided to be the guinea pig. It didn't work well. The main issue is that there's a rather large gap between the rotary drum and the box that keeps the cheese in place. You can only fit smaller pieces of cheese onto a grater like this, and because of the gap, once the piece of cheese is down to about a half inch thick it gets jammed or pops through out onto your food. This actually works better for softer cheeses like cheddar which eventually just pop through, as opposed to harder Parmesan which is more likely to get stuck. I bought this with the intent of using it for Parmesan on pasta. Lately I've been using a regular flat grater, or pre-grated cheese, because this is just too much effort. Also, the metal handle, as much as a I like stainless steel, is hard to hold. It gets slippery and hard to keep clamped down on the cheese. Recently I went to a local kitchen store to look at some other models, and see that the others have a much tighter fit that would more fully grate cheese. I think a larger drum-size would also help keep the cheese from getting shifted down onto my food or getting the cheese stuck in the crevice between drum and cheese-holder... with a larger drum there would be a flatter grating surface rotating against the cheese. This drum is smaller than the box that holds the cheese against it, so seems to grate through the cheese, leaving the sides un-grated. I'll probably order another soon, but next time I'll get one with a fair number of positive reviews, even if it's not as pretty as this one. Most of the alternatives are also less expensive.

Works, but feels unstable
It grates cheese well enough, but felt like it could break any moment. For reference, both soft and hard cheeses grated well using large and small grater drums, respectively, but the frame had enough give to feel insecure (twisting and bending enough to fear breaking the thing). Not terrible for the price, but it doesn't feel like it will last long. It washed easily enough at least, a plus considering soft cheeses had a tendency to extrude into crevices of the handle and drum-retaining frame during use.

Lower quality than previous model
We’ve had a hand grater like this before from American Metalworks. The quality has gone way down. It’s smaller and extremely lightweight compared to the old one. The only reason we needed to get a new one is that a piece came off that could have easily been put back on, but one of the kids threw it away. ???? The old one rocked. I don’t have much faith in this one.

Sturdy and sharp!
Much sturdier than the plastic ones.

Helpful tool
It is well constructed, sturdy and easy to clean. However it is harder to use the my previous plastic model as it is harder to crank.

Good buy
I bought this as a gift for my mother in law. She wanted one that was stainless steel because the others she had purchased (all plastic) broke after time used. She loves this one! It is made for harder cheeses, so parmesan works wonderfully in there. The texture is perfect for soups or salads. It reminds me a lot of the one they use at Olive Garden. The only con I can think of is that the handle is a little hard to hold and rotate the handle. But it does the job and the end result is great.

Great Grater
The grater is easy to use and easy to clean. The blade is very sharp and grates Parmesan cheese very quickly. The only drawback is that there is a space between the blade and the frame. When you get to the end of the cheese, chunks of ungrated cheese slip past. I've only used it a couple of times, so I can't speak to the durability. Overall, it is far superior to the plastic ones. I'd buy this before I'd buy another plastic one.

Works but is Fiddly.
Awkward to use and handle difficult to grip. Grinds well but not worth the effort.

Shipped cheap plastic product in stainless steel-labeled box!
Headline says it all, very devious! Box was previously opened and contained a cheap plastic grater. Do not buy, seller is not trustworthy!
